The New York Red Bulls have claimed a world first with the launch of a new ticketing app which allows fans to buy and reserve seats via Facebook.

The new initiative has been developed by the Major League Soccer (MLS) club’s partner, AudienceView. The app utilises the company’s distribution channel for online ticketing through Facebook, AVTiki, with the Red Bulls claiming they are the first professional sports team to implement such technology.

Fans who ‘like’ the Red Bulls on Facebook can now buy tickets for themselves and reserve seats for up to 24 hours. If the purchaser reserves tickets, they can send a special link to friends and family to access and buy those same reserved seats, so as to ensure they all sit in the same section and row during the match.

The initiative kicked off this week with a special 24-hour pre-sale window for the team’s March 16 home season opener, available only to Facebook fans. New York will continue to offer special, limited ticket promotions through their Facebook page throughout the season.
