The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has enhanced its commercial portfolio by announcing a strategic partnership with Qatar Airways.

The duration of the deal was undisclosed, with QFA president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani stating that it is a “long-term” arrangement. The carrier will serve as the official airline of Qatar’s national team as it seeks to improve its standard ahead of the country’s staging of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said: “This is a moment of pride to link up with our national football team and provide support as the team prepares for key matches and tournaments around the world. Sport is one of the pillars of Qatar Airways’ strategy and football in particular will feature largely in our marketing activities this year and going forward. We are taking great steps to align ourselves with great brands at home and overseas.

Sheikh Hamad added: “I would like to offer my thanks to Qatar Airways for showing vision in backing the sports sector, and football in particular, in our country in a big way.”
