Petromin has announced it will sponsor the 21st Gulf Cup of Nations, which kicks off in Bahrain on Saturday.
The Saudi Arabian oil and lubricants company sponsored the previous edition of the tournament when it was staged in Yemen in 2010. The agreement for the 2013 Gulf Cup has been struck with World Sport Group, the tournament’s commercial rights-holder.
Samir Nawar, CEO of Petromin, said: “Gulf Cup spreads sportsmanship and the love of fair competition among the region’s communities through the promotion of the most popular sport and pastime football. By sponsoring the championship, we aim to support Gulf sports in general and get closer to the youth, which constitute the majority of the population of the area, in addition to strengthening presence of Petromin in the region’s markets, and spread awareness of its brand, since it is the favourite of many of the region’s population.”
Kuwait is the reigning Gulf Cup champion and will compete against host nation Bahrain and six of the region’s other national teams for the 2013 trophy.
