Leading Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro is set to agree a two-year contract that will see Lupo become its new kit partner.
Atletico president Alexandre Kalil confirmed the deal on his Twitter account, stating that the contract will be worth R$25 million (US$12.1 million) to the Belo Horizonte club. Lupo will replace fellow Brazilian firm Topper as the team’s new sportswear supplier.
Valquírio Cabral Jr., Lupo’s commercial director, told the Maquina do Esporte website that the deal has been agreed in principle with only the final paperwork remaining to be signed. “With Atlético-MG, we arrive at a completely different level, much higher than the clubs that we sponsored before,” he said. “We’re talking about one of the great clubs of Brazil, who next year will compete in the Copa Libertadores, and has one of the biggest supporter bases in the country.”
Atlético Mineiro finished as runner-up in the 2012 Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, five points behind champion Fluminense. The team has qualified for the second stage of the 2013 Copa Libertadores.
