Nkechi Obi: Football must be run like a business to get the desired results
Foremost football commentator believes the international get-together will serve its purpose of been held in Lagos
Nkechi Obi has commended the Lagos State government on bringing the Soccerex seminar to the state and in extension the West Africa region.
“Football is big business and in as much that we want the corporate world to bring their money into the game, they will not come in when the game does not look profitable,” Obi told Goal.com.
“There is no one that wants to throw money down the drain. The would-be sponsor needs to be made to realise that if he is selling 10 bottles now, partnering the Nigeria Football Federation or any other body will lead to increase in sales to maybe 50 bottles.
“Then they do not need any incentives to come in and partner – that will be the natural consequence,” she added.
The foremost female football commentator in Nigeria added that football authorities have to develop the venues and the players.
“People must be able to watch games in the stadium and create a spectacle that will sell the products that the sponsors want to sell,” she added.
She also said Soccerex provides the avenue for these parties to meet, discuss and do deals that will move Nigerian football forward.
