One of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers passes away in Morocco at the age of 71
Former Morocco international goalkeeper Allal Ben Kassou died at the age of 71 on Tuesday, a statement from the country’s football federation confirmed on Thursday.
Kassou was considered as the Kingdom’s best ever goalkeeper and among Africa’s greats.
He was a member of the Atlas Lions between 1964 and 1974, participating in several international tournaments including the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the 1970 World Cup and the 1972 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.
He retired after 500 matches played including 116 caps with Morocco, before taking up a job as coach at FAR Rabat, Ittihad Khemisset and Moghreb Tetouan.
