The Blue Sharks have appealed against Fifa’s decision that threw them out of the World Cup qualifying knockout stage
On Friday the Cape Verde Football Federation announced it had filed an appeal against Fifa’s decision that stripped the Islanders of their qualification to the knockout stage of the 2014 World Cup.
Cape Verde were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, enabling Tunisia to overtake them into the playoff stage.
After an initial hesitation, the body said it finally resolved to appeal to the Disciplinary Committee with new evidence. The Blue Sharks stunned Tunisia at home 2-0 but the North Africans complained that Cape Verde used suspended defender Fernando Varela during the game.
The Fifa Disciplinary Committee subsequently confirmed its verdict against Cape Verde. Local observers believe the team has a slim chance to succeed with the appeal.
