thumbnail Hello,

Egyptian sides Al Ahly and Zamalek record wins at home, as well as Tunisia’s Esperance, while Coton Sport share the spoils with hosts Recreativo

Group A

Al Ahly (Egypt) 2-1 AC Leopards (Congo)

Title holders Al Ahly snatched a 2-1 crucial home win over visiting AC Leopard on Saturday in El Gouna, where the match was moved to avoid clashes between fans and the police. Abdallah Said opened the scoring for the hosts after 37 minutes, but Leopards could have pulled level five minutes later had Ulrich Nzamba converted a penalty awarded to his side. Walid Soliman doubled Ahly’s lead in the 68th minute before Sidoine Beaullia pulled one back for the Congolese five minutes to fulltime.

Zamalek (Egypt) 2-1 Orlando Pirates (South Africa)

Zamalek took their revenge over visiting Orlando Pirates on Sunday in El Gouna following a 2-1 win, their first victory so far in the group phase. The Egyptians suffered a 4-1 defeat in the reverse fixture played in Johannesburg two weeks ago. Midfielder Ahmed Eid put the hosts ahead early in the 6th minute through a penalty before Lennox Bacela could level for the Buccaneers by the half hour mark. Salah Soliman sealed Zamalek’s 2-1 triumph with a personal contribution in the 51st minute.

Group B

Esperance Tunis (Tunisia) 1-0 Sewe Sport (Cote D’Ivoire)

After losing to Esperance at home in Abidjan a fortnight ago, Sewe Sport were beaten once more by the same score 1-0 in the reverse fixture, played in Rades on Saturday. This places their journey into the next round hugely in doubt. Former Algeria international defender Anthar Yahia headed home a 58th minute corner executed by another Algerian import, 21-year-old midfielder Youcef Belaili, to seal the Blood & Gold's third win in a row.

Recreativo Libolo (Angola) 1-1 Coton Sport (Cameroon)

Cameroon representatives Coton Sport took home a point from Angola on Sunday after they held Recreativo Libolo to a 1-1 draw to strengthen their second place in Group B. Aguinaldo opened the scoring for the home side but had it cancelled out eight minutes later by Moussa Yedan.
