Former International, Jonathan Akpoborie has said that the Super Eagles must improve their defence line in subsequent matches after the 2-0 victory over Bafana Bafana in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles were dominant in all departments of the game to beat the South Africans in Durban.
Akpoborie told Goal in Lagos that the team played well, but the defence were exposed in the first half.
“I want to commend the efforts of the Super Eagles players because they have shown they are a great side that can be relied upon at every given time.
“The boys displayed good performance especially in the second half. But our defence line must work harder. They were exposed in the first half because the attack could not hold the ball very well.
“That is the only sore point of that game. You will notice that in the second half when Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa came on, the defenders were relaxed and they played better.
“Our defence line needs to work more and do better than they have done. I believe in the players and the potentials they have. But there is work to be done in that department.
“Once we sort out our defensive problems, the Super Eagles will be hard to beat,” said Akpoborie.
Nigeria's next game will be against Malawi on September 7 in Calabar.
