Nigerians Abroad: Enyeama starts with a clean sheet and Imoh scores first league goal

After becoming Lille’s number one, the Super Eagles first choice justified that position with some good saves during the weekend


Sone Aluko scored for Hull City in their 3-0 win over Real Betis in a friendly on Saturday. The left-footed player scored in the 31st minute with a curler from outside the box.

Aluko will be hoping to start the season with the form that he has showed in pre-season as he looks forward to forcing his way into the plans of coach Stephen Keshi and the Super Eagles.

Mikel Obi and Victor Moses played for Chelsea in their 2-1 win over Roma as they played another friendly match in the USA before flying home to prepare for next Sunday’s league opener against Hull City at Stamford Bridge.

Moses was on for the first half before Ramires replaced him and Mikel played 57 minutes before Marco Van Ginkel replaced him. Moses had a chance to score in the first half but glanced his header over the bar.


Nedum Onuoha helped newly relegated Queens Park Rangers gain a valuable point away to Huddersfield Town. Junior Hoillet rescued a point for Rangers with the equaliser on 37 minutes in the 1-1 draw.

Super Eagles defender, Danny Shittu was on for all 90 minutes as Millwall lost their second game to Ipswich Town 3-0. It seems that Millwall will struggle just like they did last season as they escaped relegation on the last day of the campaign.


Vincent Enyeama began life as the number one at Lille with a clean sheet. Lille beat Lorient 1-0. Though it was a relatively quiet evening for the Super Eagles goalkeeper, he had to make three saves to keep the clean sheet.

He made a double save in the 49th minute from Yann Jouffre who shot from outside the box and then he saved directly from Vincent Aboubakar. His third save was in the 78th minute off a header by Kévin Monnet-Paquet. He also claimed two crosses.

He was given a rating of 7.7, the second highest of all the 22 players.


Brown Ideye started his first league game in the new season but he will want to forget it in a hurry as Dynamo Kiev lost at home 2-1 to Chornomorets on Sunday. Dieumerci Mbokani at the start of the second half replaced Ideye but Lukman Haruna played the whole 90 minutes. Dynamo are placed eighth in the league with seven points from five matches.

Samuel Goodwin played all 90 minutes for Karpaty in their 0-0 draw with Zorya at their home stadium of Stadion Ukrajina. The 28-year-old has been in Ukraine since 2008 and just transferred from Belarussian club, FK Slavia-Mozyr.


Imoh Ezekielscored his first league goal in the three weeks old league and the fastest so far when he scored 12 seconds into the match against Genk.

The kick-off was taken by Standard and the ball was passed back to Laurent Ciman who knocked a long ball into the Genk box, and from the knockdown by Jelle Van Damme; Ezekiel lobbed the keeper with a scissor-kick volley.

Standard Liege then had to wait until four minutes into added time to make it 2-0 away to Genk on Sunday.

Ezekiel was shown a yellow card in the 85th minute as Standard lead the Pro League with the maximum nine points from three matches, having scored seven goals and conceded none.

Michael Uchebo was an unused substitute for Cercle Brugge as they drew 1-1 away to Lierse on Saturday.


Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored two goals for Guangzhou R&F as they beat Shanghai SIPG 3-0 on Sunday. Aiyegbeni scored the second goal of the encounter in the 47th minute and followed that up with another in the 76th minute.

The former Super Eagles striker has now scored eight goals in 18 league matches. Guangzhou R&F are  placed fifth on the table with 28 points, a massive 23 points from leaders, Guangzhou Evergrande.

Peter Utaka played all 90 minutes for Beijing Guoan and they beat Shanghai Shenxin 2-1 away with goals from Frederic Kanoute and Zhang Xizhe. Utaka is yet to find the net for his new team after three games.


John Chibuike scored his fifth goal in 14 league matches as Rosenborg earned a 2-2 draw away to Stromsgodset on Sunday. Chibuike got the equalizer in the 72nd minute.

Emmanuel Ekpo started for Molde in their 2-1 away win over Sogndal and played for 45 minutes before being substituted while his compatriot, Daniel Chima came on for Tommy Hoiland in the 86th minute.


Nnamdi Oduamadi scored in his first official match for Brescia in the Coppa Italia as they beat Teramo 3-1 to move to the next round.

Oduamadi is on loan from AC Milan and marked his debut by scoring in the 90th minute.


Sylvester Igboun scored the first goal for FC Midtylland when they beat Randers FC 3-1 away from home. Igboun scored in the fourth minute and he played all 90 minutes. Three other Nigerians play for Midtylland – Izunna Uzochukwu, who started and was replaced by another Nigerian, Isaac Oliseh in the 81st minute while the fourth Nigerian, Ebere Onuachu was an unused substitute.

The 22-year-old Igboun has now scored two goals in four matches; Uzochukwu has no goals yet, Oliseh got his debut and Onuachu has played 10 minutes in the new season.


Sidney Sam scored his first goal of the season in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-1 home win over Freiburg at the BayArena on Saturday. The left-footer, who is still eligible for Nigeria scored Leverkusen’s third goal in the 52nd minute.

2. Bundesliga

Anthony Ujah played all 90 minutes for Cologne as they fought back to rescue a point away to Padeborn on Saturday. The Super Eagles striker got a yellow card in the 90th minute and they equalized in the second minute of added on time through Kacper Przbylko.

German-Nigerian defender, Leon Balogun was on for all 90 minutes for Fortuna Dusseldorf as they lost 2-1 at home to 1860 Munich. The 25-year-old Balogun got yellow carded in the 84th minute.
