Mali report Benin & Rwanda to Fifa for allegedly fielding ineligible players

Malian officials have lodged a complaint to Fifa against Benin and Rwanda for using unqualified players in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers

Mali Football Federation has complained to Fifa that Benin and Rwanda fielded ineligible players against the Eagles in their Group H matches.

The Malian FA maintains that Beninese goalkeeper Fabien Farnolle, who was used when both sides clashed in Cotonou on June 2, 2012, is originally from Martinique Island and during his naturalisation Fifa was not informed.

Mali lost the game to Benin 1-0 but now want to be awarded the three points.

Secondly, the Bamako officials say Rwanda fielded a player who is originally from Gabon and whose naturalisation was not authorised by Fifa. Medie Kagere scored Rwanda’s goal in their shocking 1-1 away draw against Mali on June 9.

Mali FA says its team deserves the full three points for that encounter.

Mali have been eliminated from the qualifiers, with the group’s ticket to the third round going to Algeria, who have an unassailable lead of 12 points.

However, if Mali obtains a positive response from the world’s football governing body things might shake up in the group.
