The Nigeria trainer wants to bring back the Everton forward back into the national team after the player asked to be allowed time off to concentrate on club duties

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi is making plans to meet with Everton forward Victor Anichebe in order to convince the striker to reconsider playing for the national team.

Anichebe asked to be left out of the Super Eagles in May stating that he needed to be able to manage his body properly after being ravaged by injuries.

However, with Nigeria’s inability to score goals at the Confederations Cup, Keshi wants to ensure he brings in proven goal scorers for his side as they face Malawi in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier in September.

Hence, his decision to speak to the striker face to face.

"Anichebe is a great striker. He is young, strong and gives us several options in attack. I plan to visit him in England and talk to him face to face," Keshi told BBC Sport.

"We've tried in the past on the telephone but now is the time to speak to him in a proper meeting atmosphere.

"He's a smart boy, intelligent enough to know what is good for his body and we have to respect his fitness programme with his club.

"We have to put this into consideration when we talk to him. Hopefully, he can change his mind and make himself available to the Super Eagles.

"I need the support of the Nigeria Football Federation to make this happen as soon as possible because we cannot afford to lose a player like Victor Anichebe," Keshi said.
