The former Chelsea talisman is turning to business back home after securing shares in the country’s gold mine last week

Cote D’Ivoire captain Didier Drogba has taken a 5 per cent stake in a Cote D’Ivoire gold mine, communications minister Bruno Kone has announced, as the west African country embarks on plans to triple its mineral production.

No financial details of the deal were revealed by officials, however, the transaction involves a Canadian company currently operating in the Ity gold mine, situated in the north of the country.

The is the first time a business investment involving the Galatasaray striker is being revealed to the Ivorian public, however, reports suggest he has a number of business interests in real estate, oil and private security in the country.

Drogba has not played with the Elephants since February after they crashed out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, but coach Sabri Lamouchi says the team’s all-time top scorer will return to the fold next month.
