The initiative is set to involve different corporates who are going to benefit from advertisements in exchange for financial sponsorship to national team

In a bid to raise funds for national team Harambee Stars' participation in the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Football Kenya Federation is set to launch ‘Friends of Harambee Stars’ initiative on Friday at a Nairobi Hotel.

The initiative is set to involve different corporates, who are going to benefit from advertisements in exchange for their financial sponsorship to the national team.

Two days ago, Kenya FA President Sam Nyamweya made a rallying call to the government and corporates to come out and support aid the team's budget, which is not less than Sh200 million.

Stars are expected to take part in three World Cup Qualifiers, the Cosafa and regional Cecafa Cups, not forgetting the international feiendly match against Ghana on June 1.

This new move has been initiated by Kenya FA in conjunction with the newly created Ministry of Sports Arts and Culture.

Former Harambee Stars management board boss Evans Kidero, currently the Nairobi City governor, will be the chairman of the 'Friends of Harambee Stars committee.'

On Tuesday, Nyamweya said the FA needs monies in the region of Sh200 million to help Stars prepare and participate in the remaining World Cup qualifier matches against Nigeria and Malawi, the Ghana friendly, the Cosafa Cup in July as well as the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in November-December.

“The Federation needs at least Sh10 million for the match against Nigeria, with the bulk of the funds being used for the purchase of air tickets for foreign-based players, accommodating the visiting team, player's allowances, and payments of match officials," said a statement signed by Nyamweya.
