Authorities in Morocco say the accused supporters were involved in acts of violence before and after a football match in Casablanca earlier this month

About 157 Moroccan football fans appeared in court on Wednesday after they were accused of participating in urban riots on April 11 before and after a league match between FAR de Rabat and Raja Casablanca.

A spokesperson said the violence erupted in the streets of Casablanca after the arrival of supporters of FAR Rabat, which led to the destruction of public and private property in the commercial capital of the North African country.

More than 200 people were arrested after the disturbances. A prosecutor says they face sentences of imprisonment if found guilty.

A police report earlier detailed the destruction of cars belonging to private owners, public transport buses, glass and seats of the newly built tram.
