Schalke-Galatasaray Betting Preview: Backing Burak Yilmaz to continue his Champions League hot streak

Schalke-Galatasaray Betting Preview: Backing Burak Yilmaz to continue his Champions League hot streak

Latest Football League Treble: Wins for Leeds, Sheffield United and Doncaster Previous Next Barcelona-AC Milan Betting Preview: Back goals at both ends at Camp Nou

The tie is finely balanced after a 1-1 draw in the first leg and Al Hain-Cole thinks that the visitors' understated goal machine could have some joy against a fragile home defence

It may not be the most glamorous tie of the round, but a closely-fought draw in the first leg means that Galatasaray’s visit to Schalke promises to provide one of the more compelling Champions League quarter finals.

The valuable result in Istanbul seems to have given a fresh impetus to Jens Keller’s side, who have won three consecutive league games since that match, including an eye-catching win over Borussia Dortmund at the weekend.

The Germans are one of just three unbeaten teams left in the competition, and are favourites at 3/4 (1.75) with BetVictor to secure their progression with a win here.

However, Fatih Terim’s side have won their last two away games in Europe, and will fancy their chances of causing an upset at the Veltins Arena, at odds of 19/5 (4.80).

No team has drawn more games than Die Konigsblauen in this season’s competition, and you can get odds of 3/1 (4.00) on them being held to a fifth stalemate this evening.

While the hosts’ away goal and impressive current form seemingly give them the edge in this tie, their porous defence means that they cannot afford to take anything for granted.

Keller’s side have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 games, although they have only failed to score twice in that period, so will fancy their chances of outscoring their visitors.

A bet on both teams to score would have paid out in each of Schalke’s last five games, and looks safe at odds of 8/11 (1.73) in this game.

While all eyes were on high-profile new signing Didier Drogba in the first leg, it was his strike partner Burak Yilmak who again did the damage, scoring his seventh goal in seven European games.

The Turkish international has scored twice in three games since that encounter, and offers remarkably good value at 27/10 (3.70) to draw himself level with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League top scorers list with a goal tonight.
