Live Commentary

  • That is all from the live commentary, be sure to head over to Goal.com's main site for all the reaction to tonight's game, and more talk about THAT goal from Bale. Goodnight!
  • On the night when West Ham celebrated one of the great players of the game in Bobby Moore, it was fitting that such a wonderful goal, from such a wonderful player decided the contest.
  • Sam Allardyce will be disappointed - his side performed well - but Tottenham had a lot more chances and quality throughout, and in the end must be considered deserved winners.
  • It was going to take something special to beat Jaaskelainen tonight, and it duly arrived from the boot of the Welshman. To have the confidence to take a man on and then belt an effort with such skill and quality so late in the game is testament to the talent this young man has at his disposal.
  • It's all over, and once again the Gareth Bale show has won Tottenham all three points. What a goal that winning strike was.
  • 90' + 2'
Tottenham are playing out the rest of this game with real poise and quality and not allowing West Ham to build-up any pressure.
  • 90'
    Assist Thomas Carroll
  • 90'
    Goal Gareth Bale
GOAL! WHAT A GOAL - BALE WINS IT FOR TOTTENHAM. What a strike this is. The Welshman picks up the ball in the centre cirlce and drives forward, he moves the ball onto a team-mate before receiving a pass centrally around 25 yards from goal. Gary O'Neil is in front of his, but he doesn't care, he moves the ball onto his left and lashes a shot towards goal which goes straight into the far top corner. Great strike, great strike, WHAT A GOAL.
  • 90'
Four minutes of added time for the shell shocked Irons to get back into this game.
  • 88'
    Substitution Scott Parker Jake Livermore
  • 88'
Sigurdsson, who has been very lively since coming on, crosses into the are with the target being Adebayor, but the big Togo man is beaten to it by Jaaskelainen.
  • 87'
Andy Carroll gets on the end of a O'Brien cross, but his bicycle kick is woeful and the ball ends up with the fans in the Bobby Moore stand. Poor effort and badly timed. Why didn't he use his head?
  • 86'
If it wasn't route one from West Ham before, it certainly is now, as Allardyce's men launch the ball forward from the back with the target being Andy Carroll. Tottenham are standing strong against it so far.
  • 85'
Jaaskelainen should without a doubt be the man of the match tonight. The aging Finn has been a rock between the sticks and has put in a sterling showing for his team.
  • 84'
    Substitution Mohamed Diame Jack Collison
  • 84'
West Ham go close as a free kick lands in the penalty area and panic falls upon everyone inside it. It is very scrappy, but eventually hoofed clear after Carroll fails to get a decent shot off.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card James Collins
  • 82'
It is all Tottenham now, with West Ham rather clinging on for the draw as it stands. That won't be a poor result for either side, but Spurs will fancy their chances of claiming all three points.
  • 80'
Jaaskelainen denies Tottenham again! Vertonghen whips in a cross and Adebayor meets it at the near post around 4 yards from goal. His header is powerful and heading low into the near corner before Jaaskelainen flies across to once again deny Spurs. He has been outstanding tonight.
  • 79'
Going back to the goal, for all the efforts Bale has had from free kick's tonight, it was the one where he crossed it rather than shooting that Tottenham scored from. That said, Sam Allardyce will be furious with the defending - it wasn't great.
  • 78'
Well how is this game going to turn now. I think there will be a winner, and on the current run of play, that is going to be the away side.
  • 76'
    Assist Steven Caulker
  • 76'
    Goal Gylfi Sigurdsson
GOAL! Tottenham are level. This might be one of the scrappiest goals of the season for the Spurs. Bale whips in a cross from the right with his left foot which causes panic in the West Ham area. Several players have a hack at it before it eventually falls to Sigurdsson at the far post and the Icelander pokes home into an empty net.
  • 75'
    Substitution Mousa Dembele Thomas Carroll
  • 74'
He hasn't had to do much this half, but Hugo Lloris might have just kept Tottenham in this game. As he did in the first-half, the Frenchman is very quick in coming off his line to smother an attacker, and this time he gets out quickly to the feet of Cole on the edge of the area to break-up the attack.
  • 73'
Aaron Lennon is becoming more and more influential here with his pace and trickery on the right causing lots of problems for the Irons.
  • 72'
    Substitution Guy Demel Emanuel Pogatetz
  • 72'
Carroll has a half-chance now. His effort from around 22 yards in a central area is deflected though, and it is comfortably grabbed by Lloris.
  • 71'
    Yellow Card Gary O'Neil
  • 71'
Bale rather miscues this one, however, with his effort from the right side of the area some 25 yards from goal sailing well wide of the opposite post. Not his best effort, that.
  • 70'
Another Bale free kick chance now, after the Welshman proves to be too quick for O'Neil, who is booked.
  • 69'
Bale grazes the crossbar with an effort from a central position. He dug it out from around 20 yards and Jaaskelainen just tipped it onto the bar and away to safety. The veteran has had a fine game.
  • 68'
Caulker v Jaaskelainen III. Once again the Finn has come out on top, as he pulls off another good save from the big defender. Bale in-swings a corner and Caulker evades all his markers to get a header of target. Once again though, he probably should have done better such was the time and space at his disposal.
  • 66'
Guy Demel does well in the right corner to win his side a corner - or so it seems. The referee awards a goal kick, must to the despair of the Ivorian, but the decision was correct by Howard Webb.
  • 65'
Tottenham are piling on the pressure here, and almost go close as they pack into the West Ham area. The hosts get plenty of bodies in the way, however, and comfortably clear.
  • 63'
It is not one of Bale's finest, as his effort is well wide.
  • 62'
    Yellow Card Mohamed Diame
  • 62'
30 minutes left for Tottenham to get back into this. They could do here, with Bale standing over a free kick 30 yards from goal.
  • 60'
Tottenham try and bounce back by winning a corner down on the right through good work from Lennon. Bale takes it and it is dangerous, but it comes to nothing.
  • 59'
    Yellow Card Joe Cole
  • 58'
    Assist Joey O'Brien
  • 58'
    Goal Joe Cole
GOAL! West Ham punish Tottenham's double miss. And what a great finish it is too. Joey O'Brien floats a ball over Spurs' defence from deep on the left which finds Joe Cole, who beat the offside trap, to control with his right foot and then finish into the bottom corner with his left. Great finish from the Irons hero in front of the Bobby Moore stand.
  • 56'
    Substitution Lewis Holtby Gylfi Sigurdsson
  • 56'
Fantastic double chance. First substitute Sigurdsson curls a right-footed effort towards the opposite corner which Jaaskelainen touches on to the post and it then bounces back straight to Adebayor, but his header is weak and easily saved, he had to score there. Bad miss.
  • 54'
Tottenham's passing reaches the halfway line before being met by a tackle from Mo Diame and possession changes hands quickly. Spurs have had plenty of the ball, but have not passed it speedily enough to cause the hosts many problems.
  • 53'
Tottenham are far more content to build-up play from the back than the hosts, and their patience may well be rewarded as the half wears on.
  • 51'
Scott Parker drives forward well through central midfield before being halted in his tracks by a hard tackle from Winston Reid. West Ham counter well and win a corner as Lennon blocks a Demel cross. The corner is dangerous, but comes to nothing.
  • 49'
Nothing comes of the free kick, however, as Lloris confidently comes out to claim the ball.
  • 49'
Dembele commits another foul, and the Belgium player is going to have to be careful. He may be getting targeted by the Hammers now in the hope of his seeing red. West Ham now have a free kick out on the right.
  • 48'
Deja-vu from the first-half as Caulker is denied by Jaaskelainen from a Bale corner. The England man gets a run on Carroll and powers a header at goal which he gets a decent connection on, but he should have scored from there really.
  • 46'
West Ham try a couple of early punts forward to Carroll, but the big striker is unable to control.
  • 46'
West Ham kick-off and the second-half is under way.
  • Another bout of 'bubbles' signals the return to the pitch of the two sides, and we'll be back under way in just a few seconds.
  • Both managers will probably be quite satisfied with how it has panned out so far, full in the knowledge that this game has plenty of twists and turns to come. Sam Allardyce will be disappointed to see Kevin Nolan leave the pitch through injury, and Tottenham may wish to exploit the gap the captain has left in the midfield.
  • Well that is all for the opening period, and the scores are deservedly shared. West Ham have worked hard and created a few chances, while Tottenham have looked very dangerous on the counter and have had the lions share of the game's best chances.
  • 45' + 2'
His effort from some 35 yards is not bad and has plenty of spin on it but sails wide of Jaaskelainen's goal, much to the Finn's relief.
  • 45' + 2'
One last moment of danger for West Ham as Bale lines up a free kick.
  • 45' + 1'
Mo Diame has been a little quiet so far, but he does well here. He powers down the right and hangs a cross up which Joe Cole has a go at, but Caulker gets there first and puts it behind for a corner.
  • 45'
Two minutes of added time will be played.
  • 44'
Great save Jaaskelainen. Spurs win a corner after a good run and shot from Holtby earns his side a corner. Bale whips in a cross and it is met by the head of Caulker who aims his effort towards the corner and it takes a full stretch dive from Jaaskelainen to clear the danger.
  • 42'
West Ham have just lost their way a little bit of late and Gary O'Neil epitomises this by launching a long ball forward to no one in particular under almost no pressure. They need to cut that recklessness out.
  • 40'
Michael Dawson is back in the side tonight, and he's done very well at the heart of Tottenham's defence. He comes across to the left side to clear a long ball forward and stub out another West Ham attack. Excellent reading of the game.
  • 38'
Great play from West Ham as Jarvis goes close. Joe Cole picks up the ball just inside on the right and delicately lofts a ball towards Jarvis who has made a run to the right side of the six yard box. He goes to shoot but his effort is well blocked by Kyle Walker. Good chance, probably the best of the game.
  • 37'
A little tempo has left the game in the last few moments, with both sides just enjoying spells of possession when they can without really hurting their opponents.
  • 36'
Tottenham will be keen to earn all three points tonight as they prepare for another derby at the weekend - they face Arsenal on Sunday.
  • 35'
    Substitution Kevin Nolan Matthew Taylor
  • 34'
Another penalty shout for West Ham. Carroll has his shirt pulled by Caulker in the area, but neither party really makes a meal of it, and Howard Webb rules against awarding another spot kick.
  • 33'
Now it is Tottenham's time to attack, and Lennon does well to put a ball in to the area, but Gareth Bale's overhead kick attempt in mistimed and his connection is poor and it goes behind for a goal kick.
  • 32'
Matt Jarvis bombs forward down the left, but he is well pursued by Kyle Walker who pressurises the winger into a poor over-hit cross that comes to nothing.
  • 31'
We've had 30 minutes of action at Upton Park, and it's been fairly even so far. Both sides have pace in the right areas, and have done well when in possession.
  • 29'
Just going back to that penalty decision, it does seem Parker got half man/half ball, but it was a silly challenge to make, and the England man made it easy for Webb to award the penalty. Diving in there was careless.
  • 27'
Such is the nature of a Sam Allardyce side, from a free kick deep in their own half all of West Ham's players are lining up on the edge of Tottenham's penalty area awaiting a hoof forward. What would Bobby think of that?
  • 25'
    Penalty Goal Andy Carroll
GOAL! Andy Carroll scores from the spot. It's a good penalty, hit hard and high to his right. Lloris went the wrong way, and would have had little choice in any case.
  • 25'
PENALTY TO WEST HAM! Scott Parker is adjudged to have taken out Andy Carroll in the area. It was a blood and guts tackle and not wise from Parker and not a wise thing to do. It was an easy decision for Howard Webb to make.
  • 23'
Hearts in mouth for West Ham fans as Gareth Bale drives forward. He moves in on goal and pulls the trigger, but his effort is tame and easily gathered by Jaaskelainen.
  • 22'
Bale takes it, and its cleared behind by a defender. His second effort goes short and eventually finds Kyle Walker on the edge of the area, but his effort at goal is poor.
  • 21'
Spurs do well on the counterattack with Adebayor and Lewis Holtby linking up well to win a corner.
  • 20'
Tottenham are winning the battle for centre-midfield at the moment, with former Hammer Scott Parker enjoying plenty of possession in the centre circle area. The game could be won and lost in that position.
  • 18'
There's a first sign of life from Andy Carroll, as the big Geordie striker gets his head on a corner. His contact is weak, however, and skims off his head for a goal kick.
  • 17'
Hugo Lloris has to be sharp off his line after a good through ball from West Ham's midfield's sets Jarvis free. The Frenchman gets out quickly to clear.
  • 16'
Tottenham have done well since the goal, and are pressing the home side well, forcing James Collins to hoof a clearance straight into touch to hand the initiative straight back to Andre Villas-Boas' side.
  • 14'
Steven Caulker tries to emulate his gifted team-mate now, but his shot from distance in high, wide and not very hansome.
  • 13'
    Goal Gareth Bale
GOAL! Gareth Bale opens the scoring! Well, who else was going to, eh?! Adebayor holds the ball up around 30 yards from goal and lays the ball off to the Welshman who finds himself on the edge of the penalty area. He moves the ball on to his left foot and pulls a shot past Jaaskelainen's hand and into the far corner of the net. Great finish.
  • 12'
Aaron Lennon drives well down the right flank but his cross-cum-shot is cleared.
  • 10'
Tottenham are just feeling their way back into this contest after some good pressure from the Irons.
  • 9'
Mo Diame has West Ham's first real chance of the game, but his shot from the edge of the area is well defended.
  • 8'
    Yellow Card Mousa Dembele
An early booking for Dembele. He loses out in a tackle to Mo Diame, sees the red mist, and then lunges into Kevin Nolan.
  • 6'
The sixth minute sees universal applause and celebration across the ground in reference to Bobby Moore.
  • 4'
Gareth Bale has started centrally just behind Adebayor tonight, and he's received the ball in an advanced area for the first time, but his shot from a narrow angle is only good enough for the side netting.
  • 3'
Tottenham build an attack from a long ball forward from the back. Adebayor lays off to Gareth Bale who feeds Kyle Walker, but the full-back mis-controls and move ends.
  • 3'
West Ham now move forward and look threatening down the flanks without causing any major problems for Tottenham's defence.
  • 2'
Neither side has really settled as yet, although Emmanuel Adebayor has taken an early knock from a Gary O'Neil tackle. That could be a cause for concern as the half wears on.
  • 1'
We are underway at Upton Park.
  • "MOORE SIX' reads the Mosaic in the West Ham home end. It looks very classy, and is accompanied by a rousing rendition of 'bubbles'.
  • A minutes applause is being observed in memory of (Sir) Bobby Moore.
  • The familiar tune of 'I'm forever blowing bubbles' is being sung just a little louder than normal tonight as the two teams come on to the pitch. This is going to be a cracking derby - I'm sure of it.
  • We're five minutes away from kick-off in east London.
  • Speaking of Greg, he's been having a nose through the match programme, and reports these words written by Irons boss Sam Allardyce: “It promises to be a special night under the floodlights, and we want to make it even more special for you by recording another important home victory. In Gareth Bale, Tottenham have a player who has been outstanding and at the top of his game, so we must stop him if we want to achieve our targets. A few mindless idiots let our great club down when we played at White Hart Lane in November and something similar just cannot be allowed to happen again. Tonight, let’s show the world what this club is all about, be truly West Ham United and make Bobby proud.”
  • Remember that throughout tonight's game you can get in touch with me via twitter @rhysturrell. I'll also have updates from Greg Stobart, who is in the press box for Goal.com this evening.
  • Tonight's game is being dubbed #bm6 by the Hammers as they mark the 20th anniversary of the death of former West Ham and England captain Bobby Moore. The centre-back was a hero in these parts, and before the game a period of reflection will be observed, along with special banners and mosaics being lifted by the supporters.
  • The visitors make three changes to the side which earned a draw in Lyon in the Europa League last time out with Hugo Lloris, Michael Dawson and Steven Caulker coming into the starting XI. Bad Friedel, William Gallas and Benoit Assou-Ekotto drop to the bench.
  • Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen; Parker, Dembele; Lennon, Bale, Holtby; Adebayor. Subs: Friedel, Gallas, Naughton, Sigurdsson, Livermore, Assou-Ekotto, Carroll.
  • Sam Allardyce makes four changes from the side that were defeated 2-1 at Aston Villa last time out with the fit again James Collins returning to the side along with Matt Jarvis, Guy Demel and Gary O'Neil. Mark Noble, Emmanuel Pogatetz, James Tomkins and Matt Taylor drop out.
  • West Ham: Jaaskelainen; Demel, Reid, Collins, O'Brien; O'Neil, Diame, Nolan; Jarvis, Carroll, Joe Cole. Subs: Spiegel, Carlton Cole, Collison, Vaz Te, Taylor, Pogatetz, Chamakh.
  • Here are tonight's teams; starting with the hosts.
  • I'm Rhys Turrell and I'll be taking you through all the action from the final Premier League fixture of the weekend, as both of these sides look to earn bragging rights over their rivals for the remainder of the season.
  • Good evening and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of tonight's London derby between West Ham and Tottenham at Upton Park.
