That's all for our live coverage from Vicarage Road. Good bye!
Sergio Aguero caps off a remarkable, late turnaround as the Citizens come from behind to snatch all three points at Vicarage Road. It could be a massive three points come the end of the season as Pellegrini's side kick-off 2016 with a dramatic victory which showed the fortitude and character is still very much in this side.
90' + 4' FULL TIME: WATFORD 1-2 MANCHESTER CITY.
90' + 2' Hart taking complete control inside the penalty area as Watford grow desperate and send ball after ball into the penalty box. Vicarage Road is stunned and fans begin making their way to the exits as Kolarov heads a ball back to Hart who can run precious time off the clock.
90' There will be four minutes added on at the end of this match, as is indicated by the fourth official.
88' SMOTHERED BY HART! Demichelis is sloppy in dealing with a ball into the box which allows Ighalo to stab a shot at goal. It catches Hart by surprise, but it's close enough to him for the save to be made without too much of a panic.
M. Demichelis
S. Agüero
Manchester City
86' Aguero has his first goal against Watford and what a big one it could prove to be for them given the landscape atop the table. He's replaced by Demichelis as City restore their back four.
B. Sagna
Assist
Manchester City
84' What a ball in that was as well from Sagna!
S. Agüero
Goal
Manchester City
84' TURNAROUND COMPLETE! This is what champions are made of! Aguero rises between Cathcart and Nyom to get on the end of Sagna's ball in from the right and sends a perfectly-placed header back across goal and into the far corner. No chance for Gomes!
84' That was coming, it must be said. Quique Flores Sanchez won't be happy with how it was conceded, but the Spaniard will still gladly take the point. City are only looking one way as they know three points are a necessity.
A. Kolarov
Assist
Manchester City
82' The delivery from Kolarov was superb in serving up the chance to Toure.
Y. Touré
Goal
Manchester City
82' PARITY RESTORED BY YAYA! What an incredible bit of skill from the Ivorian as he makes a run toward the near post before sending a tidy, brilliantly-taken volley past Gomes at the near post! Game on!
A. Guédioura
José Jurado
Watford
80' First change for the hosts as Adlene Guedioura replaces Jurado for the final 10 minutes, hoping to provide a pair of fresh legs in midfield.
79' NEARLY A SECOND! What a run from Capoue who gets by Otamendi with a nutmeg, before Fernandinho's attempted clearance bounces back off the midfielder to keep his run alive, but his acrobatic effort at goal lifts agonisingly over the bar!
77' Watford playing a dangerous game as they drop deeper into defence, inviting increasing City pressure. The visitors are finding it difficult to navigate their way through the mess of bodies, but with likely 15 minutes or so remaining the Hornets can't just sit back and defend.
W. Bony
E. Mangala
Manchester City
75' A major roll of the dice for Pellegrini as he brings on striker Wilfried Bony, with Mangala giving way. Fernandinho will likely slot back into the now vacant spot in defence.
74' Abdi is annoyed with himself as he takes the ball away from Deeney and goes for goal from about 25 yards out, but gets the contact all wrong as he sends a tame strike trickling well wide of the near post which will allow City to make their second change.
72' STAT: Manchester City are unbeaten against the Hornets in the last eight encounters in all competitions (W6 D2). Their last defeat against Watford came in a Division Two match in 1989.
70' GOMES PARRIES! What a save from the keeper who gets down so quickly to his left to push De Bruyne's effort beyond the far post, when it appeared destined for the bottom corner!
68' NOT FAR AWAY! Deeney's breakout pass is intercepted by Fernandinho, who kick-starts a quick City attack. De Bruyne is spotted in space out wide, and the Belgian picks out a promising pullback for Toure, but the Ivorian's first-time effort just blazes over the bar by a couple of inches!
66' City are starting to take over in possession, but still are struggling to generate much in attack. De Bruyne has switched now onto the left flank following Navas' arrival, but continues to find little joy out wide.
64' INCHES WIDE! Vicarage Road nearly sent into a frenzy as Holebas makes a sensational run forward, one of his first on the evening, before driving a shot at goal which takes a deflection off Ighalo before bouncing inches beyond the far post with Hart rooted to his spot.
62' STAT: Watford didn't manage a single shot on target when they played Man City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season.
Jesús Navas
R. Sterling
Manchester City
60' Sterling's game is done and he has been a mere peripheral figure through the first hour. It hasn't been his night and it ends disappointingly for the ex-Liverpool forward, replaced for the final 30 minutes by Jesus Navas.
59' Pellegrini is disgusted with what he's seen up to this point, as they goal-scoring woes continue, and has got a number of his substitutes up and running on the touchline. Wholesale changes could be ahead for the visitors.
57' This stadium is booming with every kick of the ball! They're enjoying every second of the party because there's no knowing how long it will last. Nonetheless, no one can say it's not a deserved lead for the Hornets who continue to play a strong team game this evening at Vicarage Road.
B. Watson
Goal
Watford
55' VICARAGE ROAD PAINTED YELLOW! This will go down as an own goal as Kolarov got the slightest of touches, but Watson's in-swinger from the corner fools Hart and goes straight in! What a story they are writing for themselves!
54' HOW HAS HE MISSED THAT? Fernandinho completely shakes the marking of Capoue inside the area to get on the end of a corner. He has a free header from eight-yards out but somehow fails to hit the target! That has to be 1-0, and he knows it as he buries his head in his hands.
52' STAT: Odion Ighalo became the first Watford player to score in six successive top-flight league games when he netted in their last match versus Spurs. If he scores today he will equal the Watford club record of scoring in seven successive games, set by Frank McPherson in 1928-29 (in Division Three South).
50' Watson delivers a flat free kick into the area which Fernandinho heads high into the air. It's not dealt with by City as the ball eventually comes toward the far post for Deeney, but Sagna senses the striker's arrival and does very well to knock the ball away from harm.
48' Hart has to be sure, despite Watson's shot appearing to be heading wide at the near post. The keeper gets across and ushers it behind for a corner, which gets the crowd buzzing yet again. Watson delivers, but Hart commands his area well, getting off his line and punching clear with great distance.
46' Back underway at Vicarage Road!
Next to nothing to separate these two sides after 45 minutes as we head to the break scoreless at Vicarage Road. City need three points to avoid falling too far behind Arsenal atop the table, which should make for a more lively and open second half.
45' + 1' HALF TIME: WATFORD 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY.
45' There will be just one minute added on at the end of this first half.
44' With few stoppages there is likely to be very little, if any, added time at the end of this first half. The ball is stuck in the midfield third at the moment and is struggling to stay in play as space proves difficult to come by.
42' Watford are ending the first half on a high, doing their best to camp out in the City half - though they aren't doing enough to force Hart into action. Watson lifts a decent delivery in from a free kick for Britos, but the centre-half doesn't make clean contact with his header as the visitors clear their lines.
40' STAT: Sergio Aguero has only failed to score against five of the 28 different Premier League teams that he has faced in the competition - Watford (one appearance) are one of these sides.
A. Nyom
Yellow Card
Watford
38' Nyom takes a laughable tumble inside the area in search of a penalty and Martin Atkinson immediately awards a free kick the other way and shows the right-back a yellow card - and he has little argument about it.
37' Picking a winner, or better team up to this point, would be nothing more than splitting hairs. Both teams have had their moments, but neither have done enough to take charge of a match which is very much up for grabs at the moment.
35' Watford certainly aren't backing down in the face of their opponents. They have dealt with the threat well and are starting to grow in stature themselves once again. Inventiveness in lacking when they're in possession, however, with the bulk of their approach play being to send the ball forward and hope Ighalo can create for himself.
33' Despite taking control of the match over the last 10 minutes or so, City are still struggling to break down this well-organised and disciplined Watford defence. Aguero seems to be lacking sharpness and looks nothing like the player we saw before his injury.
31' STAT: Manchester City have scored just one goal away from home in the Premier League since September, in a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates.
29' WONDERFUL BALL MOVEMENT! Silva finds a pocket of space as he takes a pass and bursts forward before rolling a ball through for Fernandinho. The Brazilian runs to a tight angle before he's able to get a shot off, and Gomes is able to get his angles right to deny his fellow countryman!
27' The match has entered a bit of a tedious period as the ball is contained largely in midfield. Still, you can feel the tides starting to shift a bit in favour of the visitors who are enjoying more possession than the Hornets at the moment, taking them to about 55 per cent in this first half.
25' Abdi can have few arguments about this one as he's issued a warning after catching Toure with a hard challenge in midfield. The Ivorian pops up quickly but he's not moving especially comfortably following that coming together, which will be something to keep an eye on going forward.
23' It all seems a bit flat for Manchester City in attack. Too much of the responsibility is falling squarely on the shoulders of De Bruyne, who isn't going to be able to solve this compact Watford defence on his own. The visitors need a greater impact from midfield, something which was sorely lacking against Leicester.
21' STAT: Manchester City are winless in their last six away league games (D3, L3) - their worst run on the road since 2011. They last went seven successive Premier League away matches without a win between September and December 2009.
19' IMPORTANT FROM GOMES! That's more difficult that in appeared for the Watford keeper, who not only had to interject to make the initial save to deny De Bruyne's powerful strike, but also knock the rebound away from harm with Aguero waiting to pounce.
17' The hosts win a free kick about 30 yards out in the left channel. They send bodies forward into the area as Watson stands over it, but the midfielder opts to go for goal himself, sending a harmless effort drifting high and wide at the near post.
15' What a start this has been for Watford, who have really got the crowd behind them now. The Hornets have to be full of belief considering how they have started, as they continue to take the game to the Citizens and keep them hemmed in defence.
13' THAT IS DELIGHTFUL! Watford going toe to toe with City in these opening stages! Abdi makes an encouraging run down the right and threads a pass into the area for Ighalo. The striker turns brilliantly to escape Otamendi and go through on goal, but Hart is able to get off his line to close down the angles and make a decisive save!
11' VITAL DEFENDING! A dreadful giveaway at the back from Otamendi gives Watford a chance to break quickly. Capoue slides a ball through for Deeney who is in behind, but he can't control convincingly before Kolarov comes in with a hard shoulder-to-shoulder challenge to send the striker tumbling and break up the chance.
9' Kolarov is looking especially lively early on for the visitors. They could really use some support from the two wing-backs to take a bit of pressure off the front four. The Serbian had a decent strike at goal earlier and minutes ago sends an inviting ball into the area which Watford scramble to clear.
7' STAT: Watford last welcomed Manchester City to Vicarage Road on April 21, 2007. The match ended in a 1-1 draw which was enough to guarantee the Hornets’ relegation.
5' Watford's gameplan is clear from the start. They're going to commit men back in defence and then look to attack on the counter via the wide areas. Nyom provides support on the overlap but his passage into the area is blocked well by Kolarov, before Hart comes out to collect ahead of Ighalo's impending arrival.
3' HOW'S THAT FOR A STRIKE? Deeney puts in more good running in attack, something we have become used to this season. The forward fends off a challenge and picks out Abdi, who unloads an effort from the top corner of the penalty area which sails just inches over the bar. That got the crowd going!
1' Manchester City get us underway at Vicarage Road!
The pouring rain has done nothing to dampen the atmosphere at Vicarage Road as these fans are in full voice ahead of the start of the match.
Just two changes to the Hornets made my manager Quique Sanchez Flores, and it's the two wing-backs who are replaced. Nathan Ake serves the first game of his three-match ban and is replaced by Jose Holebas, while Allan Nyom is back in the starting lineup ahead of Ikechi Anya after resting against Tottenham on Monday.
No changes made by Manuel Pellegrini to the starting lineup despite a toothless showing against Leicester midweek. Fernando returns following a five-match layoff due to injury and has been included amongst the substitutes. Sergio Aguero continues to lead the lines, flanked by the pace of Raheem Sterling and the creativity of Kevin de Bruyne. Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi remain the preferred partnership with Vincent Kompany sidelined.
SUBS: Prodl, Behrami, Oulare, Guedioura, Berhuis, Anya, Arlauskis.
WATFORD (4-4-2): Gomes; Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Holebas; Abdi, Capoue, Watson, Jurado; Ighalo, Deeney.
SUBS: Zabaleta, Fernando, Caballero, Bony, Navas, Clichy, Demichelis.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Hart; Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Kolarov; Toure, Fernandinho; De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling; Aguero.
CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
Watford will feel hard done by having lost to Tottenham late on Monday. They battled back from behind and, despite Nathan Ake’s red card, looked the likelier team to take all three points. The Hornets actually came an inch away from a late winner of their own, as goal-line technology indicated, before Spurs snatched all three points minutes later. The silver lining is Odion Ighalo netted again and can make history should he continue his form in front of goal today.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Manchester City’s trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford, as the pair try to begin 2016 with three points. Manchester City appeared toothless in their scoreless draw against Leicester City on Tuesday, but will take a bit of encouragement from how they defended without their skipper Vincent Kompany in the lineup. It is quite crazy to think that the problem with the Sky Blues this season has been with the scarcity of goals being scored, but it is a real issue they need to solve if they are to have any title hopes.
