University of Pretoria 0-0 Bidvest Wits: As you were in Pretoria

Despite a late surge from visiting Bidvest Wits, AmaTuks held on as the teams settled for a share of the spoils in a goalless draw at Tuks Stadium in Pretoria

The Students enjoyed the lion's share of possession but were unable to capitalise as Tuks packed their defence and continued to be solid at home, where they have earned 23 points out of a possible 36.

Wits forced AmaTuks goalkeeper Washington Arubi into two quick saves in the eighth minute, before piling on the pressure, keeping the hosts camped in their own half.

Wits’ star Sibusiso Vilakazi was next to test Arubi when he jinxed past the Tuks defence and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Arubi stood his ground and made a brave stop low down to deny the Bafana Bafana international the opening strike.

Tuks struggled to get hold of the ball as the half progressed, with their visitors starving the home side of possession and time, while paying regular visits into the Tuks side of the field.

With little in the form of action after the break, the Clever Boys continued to boss the midfield and saw plenty of the ball, but still had nothing to show for their efforts as the hour mark passed.

The game failed to produce any meaningful opportunities as the clock wound down toward 90 minutes, despite Wits boss Gavin Hunt introducing the likes of Benjani Mwaruwari and Papy Faty late in the encounter to try and spark a chance.

Faty struck the side-netting with nine minutes to play from a Wits free-kick, before Amos Ngcobo had the best opportunity of the game from a header at the back post, but managed only to find the safe hands of Arubi in goal.
