Polokwane City held on to a slim lead in order to defeat high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night
An own goal by Tebogo Langerman proved to be the difference on the night, which saw Downs drop vital points on the road.
After defeating AmaZulu 7-1 earlier in the week, Sundowns were expected to thrash the PSL newcomers, but could not rise to the occasion.
13 minutes in, Khama Billiat tried the spectacular in order to beat City keeper Modiri Marumo, but his shot narrowly missed the target.
A free kick in the 21st minute almost created another scoring chance for Sundowns, as Dove Wome provided an excellent delivery, which Bongani Zungu headed wide.
Zungu was involved six minutes later, showing great skill to beat City defenders, but only managed to hit his shot into the grateful hands of Marumo.
Galagbwe Moyana's cross into the Sundowns area ended up being the turning point, as Tebogo Langerman turned the ball into his own net.
Sundowns launched a comeback, utilising their wealth of attacking talent in the process. City responded by sitting back and focusing on defending their slim lead.
Dove Wome came the closest on the night, his curling free kick narrowly missing the target with 60 minutes on the clock.
Polokwane City defended valiantly, denying Sundowns on numerous ocassions and sealing the surprise 1-0 win.
The defeat is Sundowns first of the season, while City move away from the relegation zone with a vtial win at home.
