A Ndumiso Mabena brace gave Platinum Stars its first victory of the season as they defeated Free State Stars 2-1 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday nightEa lla Koto got off to a perfect start, as they were aiming to avenge their opening day home loss at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.
Angelo Kerspuy put Tom Saintfiet's side in front with a 5th-minute strike after a defensive scramble inside the Platinum Stars' penalty area.
Kerspuy would then become the villain a few minutes later when he was shown his second yellow card of the game before sent for an early shower.
Former Orlando Pirates striker Mabena equalised for the home side in the 26th minute following a great first-time shot, as Stars paid a price for defending too deep.
Dikwena then started the second half the brigher of the two and could've taken the lead for the first time in the match, but they failed to make use of their opportunities.
However, Mabena gave them joy when he headed them in front from a corner in the 53rd minute much to the delight of Dikwena's technical team.
The Free State outfit went all out in search for the equaliser but to no avail, as they lost their second successive match while the MTN 8 holders walked away with all the three points.
