Moroka Swallows 3-2 Mpumalanga Black Aces: Manqele bags a hat-trick against Aces

Moroka Swallows 3-2 Mpumalanga Black Aces: Manqele bags a hat-trick against Aces

Swallows recorded an impressive 3-2 win over MP Black Aces at the Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night

Both Moroka Swallows and MP Black Aces played an entertaining football in the opening 15 minutes, with the visitors dominating possession in the process.

Onyekachi Okonkwo timed his run and beat the offside trap in the 14th minute, but he was incorrectly ruled offside despite putting the ball in the back of the net.

Swallows were 1-0 up in the 18th minute through an easy tap-in by Edward Manqele who slotted it home from the rebound after Siyabonga Nomvethe’s shot was blocked by the Aces keeper Bafana Nhlapo.

Edward Manqele grabbed his second of the game with a superb volley in the 23rd minute after a well played cross by Nomvethe from the left hand side.

Aces pulled one back in the 29th minute and it was Thabo Qalinge who smashed his shot on the roof of Graig Etafia’s net from inside the penalty area after Mabhuti Khenyeza’s hard work.

The visitors piled pressure on their opponents with Okonkwo and Khenyeza combining well for Aces upfront, but they were denied by Swallows’ resolute defending, as the score remained 2-1 at halftime.

Aces had a brighter start to the second half and should have been level in the 52nd minute after a well worked move by Ofentse Nato and Khenyeza, but Etafia did well to save Khenyeza’s poorly taken shot.

Swallows punished Aces immediately after that save, and it was Edward Manqele who met Dikgang Mabalane’s cross to score his third of the night, and Swallows’ third of the game.

The visitors tried to come back, and surged forward on a number of occasions. They continued to create goalscoring opportunities, but then failed to convert with 15 minutes remaining.

Aces pulled one back deep in stoppage time through Clifford Ngobeni, but it was too little too late for the men in blue to at least steal a point away from home, as it ended 3-2 to Swallows.
