Free State Stars secured their place in the PSL for next season, when they overcame Moroka Swallows with a 3-0 win at the Dobsonville Stadium
With the final game of the season, Free State Stars fought hard to move out of the playoff relegation zone. Felix Obada looked to get the opening goal for Moroka Swallows, but his off-target shot did not trouble the Stars goalkeeper.
Ea Lla Koto showed their early attacking intent, although Richard Henyekane was unable to make his chances count. Both sides were looking dangerous in attack, however, neither side possessed the finishing touch in front of goal.
Before the stroke of half time, Tshwarelo Bereng had two great chances for The Dube Birds, but the midfielder could not break the deadlock.
Ea Lla Koto were looking desperate for that much needed victory, and made a double substitution by introducing the Ghanaian Mohammed Abdul Basit and Danny Venter into attack. Swallows' Nigerian goalkeeper Greg Etafia was in great form, as he kept out two shots by the fresh Venter.
The double substitution for Qwaqwa based outfit proved vital, as Abdul Basit found the back of the net twice in the 72nd and 73rd minutes respectively. The visitors had found their finishing instincts, and four minutes later they secured their victory when Lehlohonolo Thebakang gave Stars a three goal cushion.
Good fortune was on the side of Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon, as their win coupled with the Polokwane City loss ensured their stay in the PSL.
