Lance Davids scored a last minute free-kick as Ajax defeated Swallows 1-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at Dobsonville Stadium on Friday night
The first five minutes of the match was quiet, with no attempts at goal from either side. However, Swallows were in control of the central midfield.
In the 11th minute, a good move from Swallows was created by midfielder Felix Obada inside the Ajax box. His captain Lefa Tsutsulupa then sent his attempt at goal wide of the upright.
Ajax midfielder Toriq Losper nearly broke the deadlock with a header in the 30th minute. Urban Warriors striker Elezar Rodgers played in a great cross into the Swallows box and Losper headed it inches wide of keeper Greg Etafia's goal posts.
Four minutes before half-time, Birds midfielder Obada forced a good save out of Ajax keeper Anssi Jaakkola with a left footed shot from inside the Ajax box. It was 0-0 at half-time.
The home side had a good start to the second half. Bafana Bafana midfielder Asavela Mbekile's shot from range sailed over the Ajax's goals in the 50th minute.
In the hour mark, Ajax striker Rodgers played a low cross to midfielder Granwald Scott from the right. However, Swallows defender Larry Cohen made an excellent tackle to deny Scott a chance to test Birds keeper Etafia.
In the 73rd minute, Swallows' tricky winger Obada was brought down inside the Ajax box, but the referee waved played on.
Swallows substitute Vuyisile Wana made a good run on the left, before setting up striker Siyabonga Nomvete who failed to keep his shot on target in the 80th minute.
Ajax keeper Jaakkola parried away midfielder Obada's thunderous effort away in the 86th minute.
Two minutes later, Swallows striker Nomvete missed a glorious opportunity as he shot wide of the target in a one on one situation against keeper Jaakkola.
Eventually Ajax substitute Lance Davids scored a long range effort in injury time from a set-piece to hand the Urban Warriors a much needed win.
