Maritzburg United grabbed their first win of the season when they defeated Polokwane City 2-1 at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night
Both teams came into this match looking to register their first wins of the season after drawing their opening league clashes against Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaTuks respectively.
Maritzburg United managed to soak up the pressure and denied the visitors on a number of instances in the opening 20 minutes of the game, and they then took the lead through Mohau Mokate in the 25th minute after a good build-up from Kurt Lentjies and Thamsanqa Mkhize.
However, Puleng Tlolane unleashed a ferocious free-kick from 20-yards out to draw Rise and Shine level 10 minutes before the break for his second goal in as many matches.
Both teams were reduced to 10-men after the interval when Mokate and Elias Ngwepe were both shown straight red-cards.
Though that didn't stop the Team of Choice from restoring their lead when Kwada Mngonyama headed home an inswinging corner on the hour mark to open for his first league of the season.
Polokwane City tried effortlessly to come back into the game, but Steve Komphela's charges held on for their first three three points of the season in front of their home fans.
