Maritzburg United striker, Cuthbert Malajila’s return to United might give Sundowns defenders a real test when they meet at the Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday night
Malajila did not feature in the last match against AmaZulu. Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp will be dependimg on him to step up a gear. He scored nine goals since joining the club last year in 2012, making 23 appearances.
“I am hoping to use him against Sundowns. He has what it takes to win us the match by scoring goals," said the coach.
Another player that will pose a challenge for Sundowns is Mohammed Awal, who also missed out on Wednesday. Awal is coming to the match full of high confidence, after having had a long run for his national team, Ghana in the Afcon.
Both the teams come into this match, after midweek draws and require a win. Middendorp said he is aware that this mach will not be easy.
“The game will not be easy. We need to work hard and use all the opportunities that we get. Sundowns are a very good team, and they also have a good coach. My players are all looking positive and they are well aware that a win is a must.
“The return of players like, Awal and Malajila, will be a good boost for our side. At the same time, I want to give the youngsters a chance as well to play,” he said.
Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela wants to prove his critics wrong. Mphela failed to score a single goal during the Afcon. He will come up against inform United keeper Shuaib Walters who also wants to impress the national selectors. Sundowns goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands is a contender for the number one goalkeeper spot in the Bafana team. He will be hoping to keep another clean sheet after the draw with Kaizer Chiefs.
The last time these two teams met, Maritzburg clinched victory 2-1, but it could be very different with Mosimane at the helm of Sundowns.
