Maritzburg United registered their second victory on the trot with a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday afternoonGolden Arrows came into this league encounter looking to the end their six-game losing streak at the expense of rivals Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon.
However, the Durban outfit found themselves on the back foot in the 17th minute when Orlando Smeekes raced to a ball played behind the Arrows' defence before smashing his shot past Arthur Bartman for his third goal of the season.
Manti Moholo played a delightful ball into the box in the 24th minute, but Shuaib Walters came off his line to cut the cross short with Bonginkosi Ntuli aleady waiting to slot it home.
Moholo then tried to beat Walters with a long range shot just before the interval, but the former Free State Stars man couldn't keep his effort on target.
Maritzburg United sat back and allowed the visitors tk enjoy possession in the second half, but they nearly let them off the hook in the 56th minute when Siyanda Zwane's dangerous cross into the area went across the face of Walter's goal.
Ntuli did well to beat two defenders inside the United's box, but his executio was poor as Walters made a routine save to keep Arrows at bay.
Arrows dominated the game, but failed to get the equaliser and they were fortunate to have not conceded in the 80th minute as United looked to put the game to bed, but Bartman stretched himself to the right to make a fine save.
The visitors had a penalty appeal turned late in the game, as their situation went from bad to worse with a seventh consecutive defeat in the league.
