Mamelodi Sundowns – Pretoria University Preview: Downs look to bounce back

Mamelodi Sundowns – Pretoria University Preview: Downs look to bounce back

Sundowns will play host to Tuks at the Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night, as both teams are still fighting for a place in the top eight

Mamelodi Sundowns will look to return to winning ways when they host Tuks in the Tshwane-derby on Wednesday night.

Although the Brazilians may be little wary of their opponents after holding them to a draw in the first round, they will consider themselves a better team going into this encounter.

Sundowns have been on the mend since Mosimane’s appointment and they have shown signs of improvement in their last couple of games.

Tuks have endured a tough season since the beginning of the 2013 calendar year and they have been relegated to the bottom half of the log for the first time since the beginning of the season.

However, the rookies will be motivated by their impressive performance against AmaZulu in their previous match where they beat Usuthu 3-1.

A win for Tuks will certainly put them back into the top eight, but Sundowns will only close the gap should they collect all three vital points against their opponents.

Siyabonga Ngubane and Lionel Mutizwa will both want to stamp their authority in the middle of the park where captain Teko Modise and Esrom Nyandoro will be playing.

This will be a battle of the former teammates as Mutizwa and Ngubane were formerly with the Brazilians and they will surely have a point to prove.

However, Modise’s performance has improved in the last two games, creating two vital goals in their win against Ajax Cape Town and scoring a goal against Platinum Stars in the Nedbank Cup this past weekend.

Sundowns will go into this clash 11th on the log with 27 points from 23 games, while Tuks are 9th with 31 points from 24 games.

  • Mamelodi Sundowns have scored the same number goals as they conceded (20).
  • Tuks have been doing well when playing away with only two defeats in 12 games so far this season.
  • In head to head stats, both Sundowns and Tuks have met once and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • Tuks are unbeaten in their last five league games, four draws and one win.
  • Sundowns have lost two of their last five games, winning once and drawing twice.
