Mali recorded their second draw in the U20 World Cup on Tuesday against Greece but still stand a chance to progress from the group stage

Mali ended their second Group D outing on a goalless draw against Greece on Tuesday at the Kamil Ocak Stadium in Gaziantep in the ongoing 2013 World Youth Championship in Turkey.

The junior Eagles were hopeful of a win to improve their chances to reach the knockout stage but were held by the young Piratiko.

Misfiring Issaka Samake and Adama Niane bungled a number of chances that could have handed the West Africans the lead over Greece during both halves of the meeting.

Greece also missed clear cut chances, with Dimitrios Kolovos facing the Malian goalkeeper Germain Berthe on three occasions but failing each time to deliver his finish successfully.

Second half substitute Spyridon Fourlanos raced down the left flank and after outpacing two men powered a low cross for Diamantakos, who was left unmarked in the Malian box, but his effort was too comfortable for Berthe.

Mali’s most dangerous opportunity fell to the trio Adama Mariko, Boubacar Diarra and Adama Niane, who were able to work out an awesome effort in the Greek box that could have broken the deadlock but Mavrondis Bougaidis’ fortuitous deflection saved the Europeans from conceding a goal in the 67th minute.

Greece seized domination in the last quarter of the meeting as the Malians began to lose steam but were able to keep the scoreline blank till the final whistle.

Mali now have two points and will face Mexico in their final group game on Friday while Greece, with four points, sit second in Group D behind Paraguay on four points.
