Liga Muculmana - Kaizer Chiefs Preview: AmaKhosi out to improve their away record

Muculmana have reportedly been a hard nut to crack at home in the past few years, but the quality of Stuart Baxter's side means they should double their effort on Saturday

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to improve their away record when they face Liga Muculmana in the Caf Champions League first round, second leg in Maputo on Saturday evening.

The Soweto giants are favourites to progress to the next round of this year's competition after beating their Mozambique opponents 4-0 in the first leg.

Although they know that a draw will be more than sufficient for them on the night, Chiefs know that they need to start developing a winning mentality when playing away from home.

Muculmana, a very inexperienced side according to their technical team and assistant coach Dawood Rasaaq, understand the challenge as they need to score at least five unanswered goals to win the tie.

However, the fact that they are playing at home could be an added advantage especially as they would want to bow out in style in front of their home fans.

Chiefs will be without their captain and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune for this clash. The 26-year-old keeper is still nursing an ankle injury and he's expected to be out for the next three weeks.

Nonetheless, AmaKhosi have Reyaad Pieterse, who has been outstanding between the sticks in the two games that he played so far.

The 22-year-old Pieterse has been earmarked as Khune's successor, both at club and national team level, and all eyes will be on him again this weekend.

The Mozambican club will put their faith on Sonito, who was recently in South Africa to try and secure a move to the PSL with Kaizer Chiefs.

Sonito was part of the Mozambique national team that lost to South Africa in  Chan 2014, and he will know what to expect from their opponents.

  • AmaKhosi have not lost a game in this year's Caf Champions League.
  • Chiefs have netted eight goals in their three Caf games this year.
  • Chiefs and Muculmana have met once, with the South African side winning 4-0.
  • Mulcumana was founded in 1990, and they have won three league titles between 2010 and 2013.
