AS Vita defeated Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in the first leg of their second round Caf encounter. Congolese attacker Firmin Ndombe netted a hat trick to give his side the upper hand as they go into the second leg.
The AmaKhosi has had a hectic schedule this campaign as they are maintaining their dominance in the league at number one position. Also, they face SuperSport United in the quarter finals of the Nedbank Cup, after narrowly beating FC Buffalo 2-1. Ivan Bukenya opened the scoring for Chiefs in the 30th minute and Mandla Masango found the winner in the 69th minute.
The AmaKhosi are currently in top position on the PSL table. They are on 49 points, which is three points clear of Sundowns with a game in hand.
Vita will come into this match full of confidence knowing they put on a phenomenal display against the biggest team in the PSL at the moment. The Black Dolphins currently reside at the top of the Group B Super Ligue division in Congo.
They won their previous two domestic league encounters to Rojolu and Shark XI respectively to maintain their dominance back at home. Vita hold 30 points in their domestic league, only one point ahead of second placed Sanga Balende, although they have two games in hand.
“A goal for them kills the tie in theory, but in practice it doesn’t because we can also score five goals,” Stuart Baxter told the clubs website ahead of this massive encounter.
“We must have a good defensive shape and when we have the ball we have to be active and move the ball quickly and be offensive.
“We lost because they created four and took three and we created five chances and we scored nil in Kinshasa. We have to bring some nerves into the game.
After ten to fifteen minutes they face a defeat. We have an opportunity when they get on the ball because they overindulge themselves with the ball,” he said.
