Kaizer Chiefs merely need one point in their quest for PSL glory when they host SuperSport United on Wednesday night

Kaizer Chiefs play host to SuperSport United on Wednesday night and the AmaKhosi merely need one point to capture their first PSL title in eight years.

With 56 points and on top of the PSL standings with two games remaining, Chiefs hold a three point lead over nearest rivals Platinum Stars and are on the verge of being crowned champions.

Stuart Baxter will be watching from the stands due to the red card he received during Chiefs Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against United FC and assistant coach Doctor Khumalo will take over in the dugout.

In what was destined to be a tight end to the 2012/2013 season may end before the final match-day if the team from Naturena can grab at least a point from their clash on Wednesday evening.

However, their opponents SuperSport United will not be an easy task due to their strong late season form, which has seen Gavin Hunt's side book a place in the Nedbank Cup final.

Even though Chiefs only need a point from Wednesday's encounter, right-back Siboniso Gaxa believes the side will not settle for a stalemate.

“I feel that SuperSport deserve the respect like the rest of the teams in the league because we are also going to face them in the final of the Nedbank Cup and winning this match will motivate them heading into the final,” Gaxa said.

“We know that we only need a point to win the league but we have six points remaining and we won’t go for the one point, we will play for the maximum six and win the league in the sort of fashion that league champions do.”

United will also be searching for a win as their place in the top half of the table is under threat. Gavin Hunt's side is targeting a strong finish to the season and need to win their last two games in order to finish fourth.

“We need the points more than they do. We have to firstly make sure that we finish in the top eight and then if we win our last two games then we will finish in fourth," commented club captain George Maluleka.

“It is always a tough task playing the league leaders in any league especially a side that has been on top for the whole season, but we have a duty to ourselves and the club to do well in this match.”
