So it finishes goalless. A bit of a disappointing display but both sides had chances to to win the Soweto Derby. Thanks for joining me and be sure to follow Goal.com South Africa in the future. Cheers.
90' + 3'
Bernard Melvin Parker
90' + 3'
That's it the game is up! Chiefs maintain their five point advantage.
90' + 3'
NGCOBO HAS ANOTHER CHANCE!! The player is found at the far post but he cannot time his strike which ends up being more of a cross than a shot!
90' + 2'
Yellow Card Bernard Melvin Parker
90' + 2'
The fans do not sound happy at the FNB Stadium. They obviously want a goal and neither side seems likely to provide with 90 seconds left in the clash.
90' + 1'
Yet another long range effort from a PIrates play soars wide. It is Manyisa this time. Three minutes to be added on.
Pirates continually give away possession out there. Chinyama tries to score from range but is effort sails wide and is met by cries of derision from the fans.
NGCOBO!! A left-footed strike from the AmaKhosi sub is brilliantly saved by Meyiwa. Just when it seemed as if Chiefs were content with a point they have begun to look hungry for a winner! An eight point gap is a mouth-watering prospect for the league leader's it seems.
Siboniso Pa Gaxa
Josta Shimane Dladla
KATSANDE ALMOST STEALS IT! A fantastic ball from Tshabalala finds Katsande, who was unsighted. His header misses by inches as Chiefs almost scored a vital goal.
Chiefs definitely look content with a draw as they continue to sit back and invite Pirates' pressure. Neither side can keep possession as boos echo throughout the stadium.
Disappointing from Segolela, as he receives the ball in a dangerous area, but takes too many touches and is denied space by Mathoho, who clears the ball with ease.
Klate sends in a poor cross which Segolela cannot save as Chiefs have a goal kick. The match seems destined to end in a 0-0 draw unless one of the Soweto Giants conjures up a goal at this late stage.
Orlando Pirates make their final change of the match, bringing on Onyekachi Okonkwo, who should provide some much needed energy in the middle of the park.
NCGOBO!! Wonderful touches from the big man, who almost creates enough space to get the ball past Meyiwa. The power and pace of the striker were on display there.
Takesure Chinyama comes on for Collins Mbesuma, who was disappointing today for Pirates.
PENALTY FOR PIRATES!? No! The referee has booked Segolela for simulation even though Tshabalala certainly brought down the winger. Poor decision from the referee.
Yellow Card Tlou Mashedi Segolela
Mashaimaite is able to get his head on a cross but Meyiwa is on hand to save the weak attempt.
Chiefs will be happy they were able to stave off a Pirates opener there, as the frustration grows within the Buccaneers ranks.
PIRATES COME CLOSE AGAIN! Two corner kicks and two more opportunities for Pirates who earn a third set-piece, which finally results in a corner kick as Klate sends a cross just over the crossbar.
CHANCE FOR PIRATES! Segolela curls in the free-kick and Khune drops his acrobatic catch. Mbesuma shoots from close range but the angle is too tight and Pirates have a corner.
The game has entered a bit of a lull after some tense moments. However, Pirates has earned a free kick in a dangerous area.
Chiefs sustain the pressure as yet another corner-kick is sent in by Shabba. Mashaimaite is found unmarked but the defender fails to time his header towards goal.
Yellow Card Brighton Mhlongo
Yellow card is shown to Mhlongo, Pirates Reserve goalkeeper! Daniel Bennet alerted the referee to the situation.
CLOSE FOR CHIEFS! Tshabalala sends in a cross instead of a shot and find Ngcobo as the near post and the striker tries to cross the ball into the path of Parker, but Meyiwa is able to block the attempt. Chiefs are now looking the more likely to open the scoring.
Chiefs win a free kick after Parker is brought down my Jele. It may just be in range for Tshabalala.
Yellow Card Willard Katsande
This match is certainly living up to its billing in the second half as now Pirates look to find a goal. The intensity on display is quite breath-taking at the moment.
CHIEFS COME CLOSE!! First Tshabalala tries to curl the ball past Meyiwa after Ngocobo sets up the move with a good run towards goal, but the keeper is up to the task with a fine save. Ngocbo collects the rebound but he is caught offside. A few nervy moments for the Pirates faithful there.
Amos Sthembiso Ngcobo
Parker has a chance as Chiefs pour forward in numbers, but he doesn't time his strike correctly. Sthembiso Ngcobo is coming on for Kingston Nkhatha it seems. Ngcobo should add a bit more height and power for the AmaKhosi.
MABENA THIS TIME! Pirates just can't find their range as the striker powers an attempt from outside the box wide once again.
CHANCE FOR PIRATES!! Mbesuma has an opportunity to shoot at goal inside the box, but he cannot find the necessary power on his strike and Khune grabs the ball easily. The Buccaneers are coming closer though.
Klate sends in a curling corner-kick which Khune grabs with ease, as Pirates start to step up the pressure. Their desperation for a win is definitely on display here!
The pitch is almost completely covered by shade which should help the players to put on more of a spectacle in the second stanza. Pirates have started to dominate possession but cannot find a way through the combination of Mathoho and Mashamaite.
Here we go! The second half is kicked off by Pirates.
We're about to get underway. Hold on tight for the second half!
Join me for the second half in just under fifteen minutes! Hopefully one of the Soweto Giants can find the back of the net in the second half. It has not been awe-inspiring but it is a tense affair during the Soweto Derby.
45' + 3'
NKHATHA! Tshabalala curls in the free kick and finds the striker, but the Zimbabwean heads wide. And there goes the whistle and it is half time.
45' + 3'
Free kick as Jele brings down Parker down the left flank. Jele is also on the brink of receiving a second yellow.
45' + 1'
CHANCE FOR PIRATES! Daine Klate and Mabena combine well as the former sets up Klate with a pass inside the box, but the winger tries to place his shot and it is deflected wide.
Nkhatha is released by Khune and crashes into Meyiwa, which earns Kaizer Chiefs a free kick. Nkhatha needs to be careful.
Yellow Card Kingston Nkhatha
Nkhatha is booked for stamping on Lucky Lekghwati after a challenge between the two players. Does not seem there was much contact though and Lekghwati certainly made a meal of the situation.
Another shot from Matlaba! The player gets this one low and on target, but Khune deals with the shot quite comfortably. The game has opened up a bit late in this first half.
Another chance for PIrates as Klate and Manyisa provide some good combination play down the left flank and Klate sends in a low cross which almost finds an onrushing Mbesuma.
MATLABA!!! Do not allow that man space! What a powerful strike from the full-back. He sends in a pile-driver from about 40 yards out which ripples the top of Khune's net.
Jali sends in a hopeful long range effort which goes well wide and Chiefs counter with a burst of pace from Tshabalala down the right flank but he is cut off by same good defensive work by Pirates. Shabba stays down after the challenge and is receiving treatment to his eye.
Masilela is down after a late challenge by Jele, but the ref plays advantage and ultimately books the defender for a rather vindictive tackle.
Yellow Card Happy Jele
Pirates have taken 53% of possession so far, but really haven't troubled Khune as yet.
The game is underway. It will be interesting to see if the break in play affects the rhythm of the teams. Or in this case creates some kind of rhythm as both sides have really struggled to dominate proceedings.
Well we have a water break here. Never seen this before! But in this sweltering heat it is very good for the players to be kept re-hydrated.
TSHABALALA!! The in-form man sends in a powerful free-kick which Meyiwa does well to punch away out of danger.
Nkhatha is down now after an attempted shot, as Sangweni seems to have caught him with his studs on the ankle. Free Kick for Chiefs in a good area.
CHANCE FOR SEGOLELA!! The sub breaks free towards goal and his attempted low drive causes Khune a bit of concern but goes wide past the left post.
Pirates can't punish Letsholonyane for a stray pass, but do earn a corner which Segolela curls in and finds Sangweni at the far post, who heads wide.
Thulasizwe Moses Mbuyane
Tlou Mashedi Segolela
Oh dear, Mbuyane has collapsed in a heap on the pitch. Tlou Segolela is brought on as the winger is helped off the field. Mbuyane looks disappointed and De Sa looks rather concerned.
Mbuyane looks like he is going to try run off whatever was troubling him, while Happy Jele is given a warning after a studs up challenge.
A bit of a break in play due as Thulasizwe Mbuyane is treated by Pirates medical staff. The game is underway again as the winger is given an ice pack on his thigh. There could be an early switch for Pirates here. Their injury crisis deepens.
KLATE!!! The midfielder takes it but his efforts lacks enough power to trouble Khune who grasps the ball gratefully
Pirates get their first set-piece opportunity as Mbuyane is brought down in a good area for Daine Klate to send in a trademark left-footed free kick.
Chiefs are starting to look dangerous in possession as the game finally comes to life. Tshabalala releases Nkhatha with a delightful ball over the top, but the Zimbabwean's cross is not of the same standard.
The corner does not result in another chance while Letshonlonyane sends into a long range effort which sails comfortably wide.
CHANCE FOR CHIEFS!! Nkhatha is fouled in an inviting area and Parker sends in a shot which just goes wide. And it's a corner kick for the AmaKhosi.
Pirates has controlled possession for the majority of the opening six minutes, with Chiefs settling into a counter-attacking game which could be an indication of how the match will go this afternoon.
A lack of communication between Sangweni and Meyiwa almost causes a problem for Pirates, but the central defender sends the ball into the stands before Chiefs can punish them.
Tshabalala is caught by Matlaba with a rather unforgiving challenge from the full-back.
And here we go, Chiefs kick off the Soweto Derby!
The players are out on the pitch and we are almost underway in Soweto! Expect lots of action this afternoon and hopefully many goals.
Ten minutes away from kick-off and the anticipation is growing inside Soccer City. This could be a classic clash at South Africa's iconic football venue.
Any pre-match comments? Tweet me @Dan0090 and I'll make sure your thoughts are published on Goal.com! Pirates will be desperate for a win this afternoon, in order to close the growing gap between them and their arch-rivals. However, my prediction is a Chief's victory as Stuart Baxter's side can be deadly on the counter-attack.
