Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 Liga Muculmana: Chiefs in dominating victory

Stuart Baxter’s side commanded a convincing 4-0 win over Liga Muculmana at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening

The AmaKhosi got off to a sensational start, displaying their dominance and getting five shots on goal in the opening ten minutes. Chiefs captain Siphiwe Tshabalala struck the first shot in the opening minute of the game, then three minutes later Knowledge Musona tried from distance, but the visitors goalkeeper denied them respectively.

Tshabalala found himself once more with space and time on the ball inside the area, after receiving the ball from Siboniso Gaxa from which Musona had made the initial run. Unfortunately Tshabalala was denied once more. Both sides settled in immediately from the start, as they stroked the ball around and proceeded into the attacking third. However, it was the home side that proved to be more threatening in the final third.

Tshabalala had taken over the captains arm band for this match when Itumeleng Khune had made way for Reyaad Pieterse, due to an injury he picked up during the warm ups.

The Glamour Boys grew with confidence and were in total domination over Mozambique’s top football team. It was in the 14th minute when Musona broke the deadlock with a header from close range during a scramble inside the area, from a set piece delivered in by Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Nine minutes later Tshabalala put his side two goals up with a stunning volley of his own. A move that was initiated by himself and Letsholonyane in the middle of the park with a beautiful build up before playing the ball out wide on the left, until Tshabalala received the ball once more from a cross delivered into the area to which he hammered home.

Chiefs keeper Pieterse was called into action only at the half hour mark when he had to make his first save of the match. Minutes later he denied Liga Muculmana once more when he tipped a long range effort over the crossbar. Just before the stroke of half time Musona almost made it 3-0 with two fantastic opportunities. With the first, his superb strike from 25 yards out was brilliantly saved and his second denied due to a hand ball.

Chiefs slowed the pace of the game down going into the second period, holding onto possession and building up patiently. Musona continued to be clinical up front. Tshabalala along with Letsholonyane was pivotal in the middle.

Zimbabwean striker Matthew Rusike added the third goal with a phenomenal strike from 24 yards out, hitting hard and low into the bottom left hand corner. Defender Eric Mathoho added the final nail in the coffin with a fourth goal, from a free header as Tshabalala turned provider.
