Chiefs will entertain Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening, as both teams will be battling for maximum points, though revenge will be more than just three points for the Clever Boys

Kaizer Chiefs will host Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening in what is the repeat of last weekend’s Nedbank Cup clash, where Amakhosi beat the Clever Boys with three unanswered goals to advance to the last 16 of this year’s tournament.

However, tomorrow’s match at the FNB Stadium offers the students their last chance of the season, to get their revenge over the log leaders. Wits though, will have to dig deep against Chiefs who are unbeaten at home this season.

Amakhosi will see the match against Wits as a perfect opportunity for them to run away from their closest rivals Orlando Pirates, who blew their chances of topping the standings last Tuesday against Moroka Swallows.

Wits on the other side, will look to continue with a good run under Clive Barker, having won two games, and losing once in their past three league games. No doubt Wits will want it more, as they are hoping to finish inside the top eight with their expensively assembled squad.

The battle between Chiefs’ Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Wits’ Tinashe Nengomasha is far from being over, as Nengomasha will be looking to avenge Yeye who won the midfield battle the last time these two teams met.

Morgan Gould is another player that will be given a lot of attention after making his presence felt in the past two games. He will have the task of keeping Calvin Kadi silent, as they both played for Jomo Cosmos and SuperSport United. Kadi has always enjoyed scoring against Chiefs from the day he made his debut for Cosmos against the same Chiefs team back in 2004.

Wits visit Chiefs knowing that anything less than a win could see them out of the top eight, depending on other teams results, as they occupy the fifth spot with 25 points.

Chiefs still lead the pack with 42 points from 19 games, and understand the importance of widening the gap at the top, as there will only be 30 points to play for, after tomorrow’s encounter.

  •  Chiefs have a run of 11 consecutive games without a loss compared to Wits’ four.
  • Wits have not been consistent on the road this season, winning only two games, drawing three and losing four games.
  • In head-to-head stats, Amakhosi and Wits have met 15 times since 2004, Chiefs winning a whopping 10 games to Wits’ three, and only two matches ended in a draw.
  • Chiefs have kept eight clean sheets while Wits have kept seven so far this season.
  • In the reversed fixture, Amakhosi gave the Clever Boys a 3-1 defeat in a match played on Heritage Day last year.
