Bonginkosi Ntuli struck past Ronwen Williams to help Golden Arrows to a 1-0 win over SuperSport United at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday night

Golden Arrows came into this encounter high in confidence following their 4-1 win over Platinum Stars last weekend, and they were under pressure to win at all costs to keep their survival hopes alive.

SuperSport United were quick to get out of the starting blocks and had their first shot at goal inside the opening two minutes from Morne Nel, but the young midfielder ballooned his effort over the bar.

Bonginkosi Ntuli's 7th-minute shot from distance nearly beat Ronwen Williams, but his attempt sailed over the top as the home side took the game to their opponents.

Ntuli should have broken the deadlock in the 18th minute after slicing past his marker before his low shot was saved by Williams, who used his right foot to make a fine block.

The home side's penalty appeal was turned down a few seconds later after Philani Shange was clearly brought down by Edwin Gyimah inside the box.

On 27 minutes, Thuso Phala drove his shot wide of Arthur Bartman's goal although it was always going to be difficult to beat the experienced Arrows goalkeeper from that sort of range.

Philani Shange failed to hit the target as his shot went across the face of Williams' goal in the 37th minute, before Bartman denied Phala with a fantastic save following a brilliant counting-attacking move from Matsatsantsa.

The visitors came back highly motivated in the early stages of the second half, and Bennett Chenene nearly punished Arrows in the 47th minute, but his attempt hit the wrong side of the crossbar and went over for a goal-kick.

However, Bongi Ntuli gave the home side the lead with a sublime finish from close range in the 65th minute, after a great pass from Christopher Katongo.

Nkanyiso Mngwengwe latched on to Manti Moholo's ball with just over 15 minutes to go, but the Arrows man guided his effort wide of goal.

Moholo squandered a great chance to wrap up the game in the 81st minute as he smashed his effort off target with only Williams to beat.

Matsatsantsa nearly punished their opponents in the 89th minute when Sibusiso Khumalo's shot came off the upright, as Arrows survived a late scare to win 1-0 and keep their survival hopes alive.
