AmaZulu finally net a win they desperately need, as they beat Golden Arrows in the KZN derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday evening
The decisive moment came in the 59th minute when Ayanda Dlamini scored his third goal of the season. He unleashed his shot from just outside the box. He looked up, saw a spot and placed the ball accurately into position like an arrow to beat Steinbors.
The first chance for Arrows came in the first two minutes of the game, when Nhlanhla Zothwane was tackled down. However that free kick went to waste as Zothwane just hit it straight to Tapuwa Kapini.
After that AmaZulu, started knocking the ball around to one another, which resulted in a cross that was headed by Tamsanqa Teyise, but was tipped away by Steinbors.
In the 19th minute Thamsanqa Gabuza seemed very determined to score as he gave Kapini a first test with a shot, which Kapini cleared away, but it was on target.
Another opportunity fell for AmaZulu in the first half from a simple ball that was created by Dlamini, only to find Manqana who was unmarked in the box, but he kicked it wide.
Former Maritzburg youngster Kulegani Madondo, made sure that he supplied the ball well in the midfield and to the strikers as well.
Dlamini missed a one on one, when he failed to beat Steinbors, who got his body behind the ball just in the dying minutes of the first half. Before that, Dlamini had also missed an opportunity to score a simple goal from a ball that was tipped to him by Steinbors, from a cross that was created by Thokozani Mshengu.
Golden Arrows defence seemed to have been lacking as the visitors kept on coming to the box, and had they used all the opportunities the game would have went to half time with more than three goals. Toward the end of the first half, Gabuza kept on trying his luck and was carefully marked by Luyanda Hlongwa.
In the 55th minute just after the second half, Arrows strongly contested with Gabuza troubling Usuthu, but they still could not find the back of the net.
AmaZulu kept on pressing with the great combination of Khumalo, Carlington Nyadombo and Dlamini, but again opportunities were missed to convert efforts. Mshengu continued from where he left off in the Maritzburg United game, but his effort went begging when Andile Khumalo missed a clear goal from inside the box.
Arrows coach decision of giving Gabuza a break after his hard work, to bring in Lucky Nguzana, added firepower in the Arrows side. In just less than ten minutes after his arrival, he was found alone in the box, but was unfortunate that he handed the ball.
On the other hand Craig Rosslee also made two changes to his side, hoping to improve his results. The first sub was Mshengu who made way for Joseph Malongoane. From there it was the goalscorer Ayanda Dlamini who made way for Bongani Ndulula in the 83rd minute.
Late on Arrows gave it everything, and it was Bovu who headed a ball that was saved by Kapini to deny a late equaliser. The result sees AmaZulu move out of the relegation zone, and this could the beginning of better things for the Durban club.
