Lebogang Manyama secured a draw for Ajax Cape Town in their opening PSL match of the new season against Golden Arrows

Ajax Cape Town and Golden Arrows began their 2013-2014 PSL season with a 1-1 draw at the King Zwenlizima Stadium on Saturday.

Peter Wadwaba opened the scoring for A’bafana Besthende early in the second half, after Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Peterson parried an attempt into the Malawian’s path and Wadwaba delivered with a resounding strike past the shot-stopper.

Ajax Cape Town levelled the scores via Lebogang Manyama, who showed his scintillating speed by outrunning two Arrows’ defenders and slotting home past Mngome in the70th minute.

Both sides showed good intensity in the opening stages of the first half, but clear-cut chances were not the order of the day, until the 21st minute when Keagan Dolly unleashed a swerving thunderbolt on target which Mngoma had to punch away.

Following the save, the match settled into a cagey affair until the32nd minute, when Lucky Nguzana tried to volley home from inside the box, but his attempt bounced over the crossbar.

Arrows began to dominate possession as the first half entered its final minutes, but struggled to put together incisive passages of play.

Ajax created the best chance of the match in the final minute of the half, as Tshabalala looped a cross into the area which found Tariq Losper, who used his strength to beat one defender and attempt a low drive towards the bottom corner, but Mngoma was on hand once again to deny the Urban Warriors.

The first half of the match ended goalless, but the home fans did not have to wait long before Arrows found the back of the net early in the second half. Peter Wadwaba, playing his debut, latched onto a parry from young Ajax goalkeeper Peterson and beat the keeper with a powerful low shot to make it 1-0.

Lebogang Manyama fashioned a chance for the Urban Warriors 58 minutes in, as he collected a pass and tried to chip the ball over an onrushing Mngoma, but Arrow’s goalkeeper stood firm and denied the talented winger.

The experienced Mdunge almost doubled the score for Arrows in the 64th minute, with a brilliant quick turn and curling strike from inside the area, which brushed the crossbar.

With twenty minutes left in the match, Manyama was in action once again for Ajax, this time finding the back of the net after collecting a through ball, bursting down the left flank with unstoppable pace and placing a low shot past Mngome to level the scores.

The match ended 1-1, with Ajax Cape Town securing a point away from home and showing their fighting qualities in the process.
