PSL new boys head to Wits with a much better record on the road than they have at home and no explanation why
AmaTuks take on BidVest Wits at Milpark in Johannesburg seeking to win a fifth away game of the season.
Already they have posted the second best away form so far this season with four wins from their six previous matches on the road – only Maritzburg United have more points away from home this season.
AmaTuks coach Steve Barker, who was on Wits’ book in his playing days, has previously admitted he has no idea why the team do so well away from home and would actually prefer it if the side would pick up more home points. AmaTuks have not won in six home games this season, drawing four and losing two.
Wednesday’s game is also the first inter-varsity derby in professional soccer history in South Africa, featuring two clubs with backgrounds at tertiary education institutions.
“It will be a rivalry between the two varsities. For us it is important to get positive results to put us back to our winning ways,” said Barker.
“It won’t be an easy game, Wits has quality players, but we are confident enough to do well.”
