Bidvest Wits could move into the top three on the PSL table when they host Mamelodi Sundowns in a crucial top-of-the-table clash at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Currently fourth in the standings, three points would move the Clever Boys ahead of SuperSport United, while Sundowns will play their last game in hand over log-leading Kaizer Chiefs.

Wits have been in impressive form this month and head into the game on the back of three straight wins across all competitions, which includes a comfortable win over AmaBEE in the Nedbank Cup.

Gavin Hunt’s side is unbeaten at home this season, with five wins and three draws from their eight matches as hosts, claiming an impressive 18 points out of a possible 24.

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates at home earlier this week.

Downs, however, were without Khama Billiat for that game due to suspension, but the Zimbabwean international is back and eligible to play against Wits.

The Brazilians have been less impressive on the road this season, managing only 14 points from their eight matches away from Loftus Versfeld.

Despite the defeat to Pirates, Sundowns remain the PSL’s top-scorers with 32 goals, one ahead of Kaizer Chiefs.

Should Wits win on Saturday, they will go level on points with Sundowns, but have an inferior goal-difference (eight compared to Sundowns’ 14).

Hunt will be without the services of his Zimbabwean defender Onismor Bhasera for the clash, after the nuggety left-back was shown a red card in Wits’s 3-2 win over SuperSport United earlier this week.

  • When the pair met earlier this season, Bafana Ba Style claimed a 2-1 home win, courtesy of goals from skipper Alje Schut and Khame Billiat.
  • Wits have scored 11 goals at home in the PSL this season, while Sundowns have netted the same amount on the road.
  • In head-to-head stats, Wits and Sundowns have met in 56 league matches since 1985.
  • The Brazilians have 31 wins compared to 14 for Wits, while 11 matches have ended in draws.
  • Sundowns’ top-scorer Katlego Mashego is injured and will miss the game.
