AmaZulu were in luck when Lucky Nguzana snatched a late goal in the 90th minute to claim a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday evening
Craig Rosslee made no changes to the AmaZulu side that beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in their previous league encounter. The home side were setting the pace of the game and created the majority of the chances.
Goodman Dlamini got the first shot of the game for Usuthu, but saw his shot sail wide. AmaZulu applied most of the pressure in the opening period, playing confidently and creating an abundance of goalscoring opportunities.
In the 19th minute of the match Usuthu came close to finding the opening goal with two great chances. The first coming from Bongani Ndulula who’s header got deflected for a corner, and the second when Dlamini forced a brilliant tip over from goalkeeper Modiri Marumo.
On the half hour mark Usuthu’s Kulegani Madondo’s curling effort went straight into the arms of Marumo. Minutes later Njabulo Manqana’s shot got punched away by the shot stopper, who was in sizzling form on the night and fell inches short in maintaining a clean sheet.
The visitors never looked to be much in the game or managed to create enough goalscoring opportunities, despite them desperately needing the victory. A rare chance by Polokwane City in the 41st minute as Galabgwe Moyana found space on the left side of the 18 yard area, but he wasted the chance and shot wide.
AmaZulu continued to display a dominating performance in the second period. Ayanda Dlamini almost punished Marumo after he had made an error, but the shot stopper was fortunate to see the ball cleared by his defense.
Rise and Shine defenders had their work cut out for them on the night. It took a powerful low finish by Lucky Nguzana to ensure the home side claimed all three points.
