Golden Arrows needed nothing less than victory to avoid relegation, but AmaZulu showed no favours and sent them to the NFD with a 1-0 win at the Princess Magogo Stadium
AmaZulu head coach Craig Rosslee was unable to lead his side on the night, after the untimely passing of his father. However, assistant coach Wilfred Mugeyi ensured Usuthu grabbed maximum points through an Ayanda Dlamini goal in the 80th minute.
Golden Arrows were fighting for PSL survival and almost got off to a dream start when Chris Katongo’s effort from six yards was pushed wide by Aubrey Mathibe. Abafana Bes'thende had showed more urgency at the start, and took numerous shots in search of the opening goal.
In the 21st minute, Philani Shange had a great chance to give Arrows the lead, but the Usuthu shot stopper Mathibe kept his team in the match once again. At the half hour mark Bongi Ntuli struck twice in the space of minutes, but the attacker could not find the finishing touch.
Mathibe was in phenomenal form, he was denied a strike by Thanduyise Khuboni on the stroke of half time.
Arrows opened up the second period with a double substitution when they introduced Nkosinathi Mthiyane and Ruzaigh Gamildien. The Usuthu change paid dividends when a pin point corner taken by Gamildien found the head of Dlamini, who headed the ball into the back of the net with ten minutes to go.
The tempo of the match raised as both sides were attacking. However Golden Arrows could not find the equalizer, and are unfortunately relegated back to the National First Division.
