Eleazar Rodgers and Tashreeq Morris were on the scoresheet as Ajax defeated SuperSport 2-0 in an Absa Premiership clash at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday.Hosts Ajax were out to end their four match winless streak at home, while their visitors on the night SuperSport were eager to avenge their first round PSL defeat to the Urban Warriors.
Ajax dominated ball possession in the early stages. Urban Warriors winger Keagan Dolly's cross into the SuperSport box was too high for striker Tashreeq Morris in the eighth minute.
SuperSport winger Bennet Chenene's long range effort from 40 yards out, went wide of Ajax goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola's goalposts in the 21th minute.
Ten minutes later, Matsatsantsa right back Oupa Moeketsi whipped in a good cross into the box, but teammate David Mathebula sent his strike straight at Ajax keeper Jaakkola.
The home side broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. Ajax striker Morris tucked the ball into the far post, beating SuperSport keeper Ronwen Williams, to make it 1-0 to the Urban Warriors at half-time.
Six minutes into the second-half, SuperSport midfielder Lebo Manyama's shot went straight at Urban Warriors shot-stopper Jaakkola.
The away team continued to search for the equalizing goal, with midfielder Mathebula hitting a volley which forced Ajax keeper Jaakkola into a brilliant save in the 59th minute.
Things got worse for Matsatsantsa ten minutes later, when midfielder Mkhabela was red carded for a professional foul on Ajax's skillful winger Dolly.
It did not take long before the Urban Warriors took advantage of their numerical advantage over SuperSport.
Ajax striker Rodgers slotted the ball home to double their lead in the 72nd minute, much to the delight of the Urban Warriors faithful inside Cape Town Stadium.
The home side nearly made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute. Winger Dolly's thunderous strike struck the cross bar with SuperSport keeper Williams rooted to the ground.
It ended 2-0 to Ajax, but they remain in position 10 on the Absa Premiership standings.
