African Warriors will look to make history by advancing to their first ever Nedbank Cup semi-finals when they host Maritzburg United at Charles Mopeli Stadium on Saturday.

African Warriors have repeated last season's feat, by reaching the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals again this year. Warriors advanced to this year's last eight after defeating NFD side Milano United 1-0 at home. Coach David Vilakazi's charges lost 1-0 at home to Santos in their most recent NFD league match.

Coach Vilakazi' side will have to do without winger Bonginkosi Nxumalo, who is suspended. Midfielder Mfanelo Makume will miss the match due to a twisted ankle injury.

Maritzburg United are heading into this encounter as favorites. United are currently doing well in the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup.

Last season's Nedbank Cup quarter-finals pulled a shocker, when they defeated this season's cup specialists Platinum Stars 3-1, on penalty shootouts.

United gunned down PSL strugglers Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 in their most recent league match, thanks to Dutch forward Orlando Smeekes' solitary goal.

Coach Steve Komphela's side will be without striker Thokozani Sekotlong, who is an injury casualty. United have no suspensions heading into this Cup fixture.

Former AmaZulu striker Josef Lekata is African Warriors' main striker. The 26-year old netted the only goal of the match as Warriors defeated Milano United 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup last 16.

Maritzburg United captain Micheal Morton is the key player for the Kwazulu-Natal side. The 24-year old has the ability to break play and distribute the ball very well in the midfield.

  • Warriors were defeated 3-2 by fellow NFD side United FC in the 2013 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.
  • Maritzburg were also knocked out of the 2013 Nedbank Cup, at the quarterfinal stage, by SuperSport United, who emerged as 2-1 winners.
  • This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in official competitions in South Africa.
  • Warriors are currently ninth on the NFD standings while the Team of Choice are placed 12th on the Absa Premiership standings.
