    Artur Boruc

Spilled two routine shots in the first half, but had little chance with the goals. Did look more comfortable than against Arsenal, though. Fine save to deny Ba a third.

Jose Rocha Fonte Flop of the Match

A slight lapse in concentration nearly led to goal when he left a cross, but then his intervention on Ramires stopped one. His team's marking wasn't tight enough for the Blues' goals. Beaten to the ball for Ba's second.

    Luke Shaw

Looked solid against Hazard and also ventured forward. Fine challenge denied Hazard a sure goal.

    Maya Yoshida

Looked to play it out from the back but, like his centre-back partner, failed in organising the defence for the opponents' goals.

    Jack Cork

Solid defensive display, until the Blues' opener which came from his side. Got forward well and his moves paved way for opening goal.

    Jason Puncheon

His early movement was a threat but the final ball was lacking, all until the superb assist for Rodriguez's opener. Much quieter in the second, and was duly replaced.

    James Ward-Prowse

Looked unbelievably comfortable for a teenager. Was confident both going forward and defending. Part of a solid midfield until the two first-half goals. Dominated in midfield by the Blues as they stormed ahead, though.

  • Morgan Schneiderlin

    Morgan Schneiderlin

Tackled back strongly as always and drove forward. Was quick to pressure and assured on the ball. Replaced soon after the break by De Ridder.

  • Steven Davis

    Steven Davis

Was hurt when blocking a Luiz shot. Tracked back and worked very hard. Almost got back to prevent the equaliser. Chelsea were too strong thereafter. Should have scored when Saints were 4-1 down. Gave away the late penalty.

Very quiet throughout the game as he failed to get involved.

Was caught offside too much early on. Took his goal very well and ran admirably however was unable to hold the ball up against Cahill and Ivanovic. Offered little after the break.

    Ross Turnbull

No chance for opener after his defence left Rodriguez free. Maybe could have organised defence better for it. Fortunate to escape punishment when handled outside his area. Fantastic double save to deny Steve De Ridder and then Steven Davis.

  • Ashley Cole

    Ashley Cole

Reliable at the back and also, as usual, got up and down the touchline well. Assisted Moses's goal.

  • César Azpilicueta

    César Azpilicueta

Didn't pose as much as a threat as normal. Left too much space for opener. Easy second half at the back.

    Branislav Ivanovic

Put in some fine tackles and also posed a threat when venturing forward, for which he was rewarded with a goal. Very solid game.

  • David Luiz

    David Luiz

Made a few sloppy passes early on and lashed a half-opening over. Made numerous defensive blocks though. Slipped back into defence in the second half and was comfortable.

  • Gary Cahill

    Gary Cahill

Dominated Rodriguez in the air but fell asleep for Saints' opening goal, when his marking was non-existent. Solid after but had little to do.

  • Eden Hazard

    Eden Hazard

Lively but, for the most, lacked the final touch. His one-two with Mata set up Chelsea's equaliser, though. Nice ball to Ba for the forward's second.

  • Ramires

  • Victor Moses

    Victor Moses

Was the Blues' main threat early in the game. Found space finding space and displayed some neat touches. Involved in the equaliser and scored the second. Brought off in the second half as he quietened down.

  • Demba Ba

    Demba Ba

Didn't look settled in Chelsea's team early on as he struggled to get hold of the ball. Showed striker's instinct to poach the equaliser though. Hold-up play improved after the break and he managed to get a second goal thanks to some good movement. Denied a hat-trick by fine Boruc save and then by Lampard taking the late penalty.

  • Juan Mata

Juan Mata Top of the Match

Fantastic display. Though Ba got the last touch on Chelsea's leveller it was mainly his good work that created it. Crossed for Ivanovic for the third. At the heart of most the Blues did and deserved a goal.
