Golden Arrows frustrated Platinum Stars' PSL hopes after they beat them 2-1 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday
helped the team to breathe better and avoid relegation.
It was Arrows who showed more hunger when attacking in the first minute when the match started. That sense of emergency was awarded through a set piece that was taken by Innocent Nene, which found Siphamandla Sithole in the box. He finished well to put his team in a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute.
This goal became a wakeup call to Platinum Stars who began attacking with more urgency, making the game more interesting. It was Arrows who seemed to have wanted it more as they were winning the loose balls.
In the 42nd minute Bafana star Thuso Phala did what he is known for in attack, but his hard work went to waste as he failed to finish from four metres away. His shot unfortunately hit the cross bar.
In the second half both teams came very hard, giving it everything for a goal. Platinum Stars continued to get forward, but they were denied goals by Arrows goalkeeper Siya Mngoma who replaced first choice keeper Nkosingiphile Gumede.
It was Smith who finally got rewarded after his hard work. He got the second goal for Arrows giving them a cushion 2-0 lead. Arrows also had an opportunity to score another goal, when they received a penalty after Bongi Ntuli was brought down.
Musa Bilankulu took the penalty, but placed it over the cross bar. Stars goal by Robert N’gambi was not enough to help his team get back into the PSL race in time.
