Moroka Swallows tried to unsettle Chiefs earlier on and won a free-kick inside the first three minutes when Erick Mathoho was adjudged to have fouled Lerato Chabangu outside the box, but Itumeleng Khune easily dealt with the resultant free-kick.

The home side nearly opened the scoring a minute later when Siyabonga Nomvethe broke down the left before unleashing a thunderbolt that hit the crossbar with Khune well beaten.

Amakhosi should have taken the lead in the 10th minute after George Lebese found himself with only Greg Etafia to beat, but his poorly taken shot went straight to the Swallows keeper.

The visitors then started knocking the ball around and Siphiwe Tshabalala dictated the midfield with some splitting passes. Tshabalala put Bernard Parker through and the Chiefs marksman picked Kingston Nkhatha in the box, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Etafia.

Chiefs then paid a price for the number of chances they missed and it was Giorgi Negardze who put Swallows in front from Chabangu’s corner in the 20th minute, after being left unmarked in the box.

Swallows then won the penalty after Chabangu was brought down by Khune inside the box and Katlego Mashego stepped up to take the spot-kick, only for Khune to dive to his right to produced a fine save.

Amakhosi then came back strongly and won a free-kick outside the Swallows box, but Etafia positioned himself well to deny Parker on the half-hour mark.

The visitors kept knocking on the Swallows’ door and finally got their equalizer in the 31st minute through Bernard Parker who received a nice back heel from Nkhatha for his 11th of the season.

Both teams never created any clear-cut chances going into the interval, but Chiefs would consider themselves unlucky after Parker’s last minute shot was deflected for a corner.

Both Swallows and Chiefs started the second half well, but it was the hosts who should have restored their lead in the 47th minute when Lefa Tsutsulupa blasted his shot over the bar.

A few minutes later Nkhatha headed over the bar from Tshabalala’s cross. Amakhosi then took the lead in the 54th minute through Bernard Parker who met Siyabonga Nkosi’s six yard cross to make it 2-1.

Nkhatha never really had a great game as he would have hoped and missed another chance in the 65th minute after a lovely ball from Lebese.

Amakhosi never put their foot wrong every time they had possession and they grabbed their third goal of the evening in the 72nd minute with a sublime finish from George Lebese to put the game beyond Swallows’ control.

Parker nearly got his third of the night and 13th of the season a few minutes later, but Etafia did well to deny the Bafana striker.

Parker again missed an opportunity to get himself a hat trick as he failed to hit the target from substitute Josta Dladla’s cross. The Bafana marksman was again denied by Etafia in the last minutes of the game, as Amakhosi extended their lead at the top of the PSL standings with a vital win against Swallows.
