Moroka Swallows - Orlando Pirates Preview: Bucs out to redeem reputation
Moroka Swallows will welcome Orlando Pirates at the Dobsonville Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling Soweto derby on Tuesday night
By Ernest Makhaya
Pirates visit Swallows at the back of a heavy defeat, and will be very cautious against another wounded side that defeated them 3-0 in the first round of the league.
The Dube Birds find themselves three points off the relegation zone, and the win against the defending champions will give them hope for a top eight finish. The difference in points between the bottom and top half of the table is very slim.
Swallows will absolutely want to rub the salt into Pirates’ wound, after their humuliating loss against amateur team Maluti in the Nedbank Cup. The return of veteran Siyabonga Nomvete will bring that spark back into the derby. Nomvete is one of the few Swallows players who have donned the black and white jersey of Pirates, and will be looking to prove his own point.
On the other hand, Pirates have former Swallows striker Collins Mbesuma. The Zambia forward will want to send a message that they made a mistake by releasing him.
Swallows go into this encounter sitting at number 12 on the log with 19 points from 18 outings, while Pirates go into tonight’s match knowing that three points against Swallows will see them at the top of the table, as they are now second, two points behind Kaizer Chiefs.
