Orlando Pirates advanced to the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout Cup following their 4-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night

Orlando Pirates showed no signs of fatigue and broke the deadlock in the 11 minute when Kethokwakhe Masuku crossed the ball to Lennox Bacela inside the Arrows box, and the former Celtic forward made no mistake with a powerful header.

On 34 minutes, Pirates won a free-kick on the right hand side of the Arrows half, and it was Masuku who whipped in a quality free-kick for Bacela, who headed the ball back to Kermit Erasmus for Pirates’ second of the night.

Pirates continued to dictate the play from the back with Senzo Meyiwa rarely tested by the Arrows strikers while Oupa Manyisa and Masuku tormented Abafana Besthende in the midfield.

The home side then made it 3-0 on the stroke of halftime when Manyisa played Lennox Bacela through, and the Pirates hitman was again clinical as he beat Aubrey Mngoma on the near post for his second of the night.

The game continued to be a one-sided affair in the second half, as Pirates continued to push forward, and they were nearly rewarded in the 54th minute when Ayanda Gcaba found himself in the Arrows’ box, but then fired his shot narrowly over the bar.

It didn’t take long for Pirates to get their fourth of the night as Masuku and Erasmus combined well in the 57th minute, before setting up Lennox Bacela who completed his hat-trick with an easy tap in.

Substitute Lucky Nguzana beat the offside trap a few minutes later, but his cross was too strong for Gift Sithole as Arrows looked to pull one back.

Rudolph Bester squandered a glorious chance to pull one back for Arrows with 15 minutes to go, as Meyiwa made a comfortable save, although the Arrows midfielder was already incorrectly adjudged to have been offside.

Erasmus did everything right in the 77th minute, but his low shot was brilliantly saved by Mngoma who needed to stretch his left foot to concede a corner.

However, the damage was already done as Pirates marched on to the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout Cup in style.
