Kaizer Chiefs - Bloemfontein Celtic Preview: AmaKhosi wants another winning run

Chiefs currently hold a six-point lead at the top of the PSL table, and they will look to extend that to nine, with Sundowns not in action until next week

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to return to winning ways when they welcome Bloemfontein Celtic at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

AmaKhosi have drawn their last two official games, but both games were away from home.

The defending champions are yet to lose at home under Stuart Baxter, and this should be an added motivation for the men from Naturena to get maximum points against Celtic.

Nonetheless, it is not going to be a walk in the park as Celtic have been getting good results since the beginning of the year, with two wins and a draw from their three games.

Ernst Middendorp has given Celtic a new belief since replacing Clinton Larsen last year, and they went on to stun Orlando Pirates to outline their intentions under the new coach.

Phunya Sele Sele players know that victory at Chiefs will keep them inside the top eight teams for a little longer, until the league resumes again next week.

Stuart Baxter will definitely be tempted to bring back his tried and tested for this encounter, but one man certain of a place in the starting line-up should be Kingston Nkhatha.

The Zimbabwean international has not been shy in front of goal lately, and Chiefs will need his strength to penetrate the Celtic defence that is yet to concede this year.

Celtic will need Clayton Daniels to be at his best again for this clash, to be able to deal with the likes of Nkhatha and Bernard Parker.

Despite the fact that he's leaving the Free State club for SuperSport United at the end of this season, Daniels has been loyal to the club that gave him a chance to reignite his career after leaving Sundowns.

  • Despite struggling to make it into the top in the early stages of the season, Celtic have only lost four games so far this term.
  • Chiefs have won more games (12) than any other team in the league this season.
  • In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Celtic have met 19 times since 2005, with AmaKhosi winning 10 compared to only two of Celtic while seven games ended in draws.
  • Frank Mhango leads Celtic's goalscoring charts with four goals, while Chiefs have Bernard Parker on nine goals.
  • Celtic last beat Chiefs in September of 2009 and since then, there have been five draws and five wins for Chiefs.
